Timing belt

get a different place to check the on-board diagnostic (ODB) codes to eliminate emission component possibilities, which might be free at some auto stores or friendly repair shops or just get a cheap emission inspection just to get the test results; likely the timing is not set right, rather than EGR malfunction coincidence; if the timing belt is off it's correct setting, running higher octane in the gas tank will either make it much better or much worse until it returns to normal fuel.

Will my 2004 volvo xc90 have a message indicator when timing belt is bad?

I seriously doubt the code was for the belt. It could have been for something the belt drives. If you can find out what the code was we can advise.
And no the computer will not set a code for the timing belt. Most companies recommend replacing the timing belt at 60,000 to 80,000 miles.

I tried to set the timing belt for the v6 bighorn but it seems like its not right.i took the right handside cilinder head off and replaced the burned valve and i tried to put it back and i forgot to mark...

This is not something that can be fixed in a few lines,so the best thing to do is go to "". About $30US will get you a very specific diagram and steps to help you put your engine back together the right way. You could also try to get the Haynes manual for it at the auto parts store or a chain store like Wal-Mart that has an automotive section. Hope this helps.

How do set time on a 2001 bmw 320

hi im not a bmw expert i just have one. to set my clock you press the computer read out switch(end of indicator stick on mine) scroll through until the time of day is displayed in the panel where you see mpg, miles to next fill etc. use the small knob to the right of the display and turn it you will see the time advance stop at the right time. The display is syncronized with the clock on the dashbord. if not the right knob try the left one im doubting my memory.good luck

Ive put a new waterpump an timing belt into my 94 gsr an i need to no how to set the timing on the top end. IM REALLY GRATEFULL IF ANYONE NO'S THE SETTINGS????????

There are specific marks on the cam pully and the crank pully that line up with marks on the block for the crank pully and on the timing belt cover for the cam pully they need to be lined up to get correct timing.

Timing will not set when i set tdc

Timing could be 180 deg out meaning your trying to fire on the exhaust stroke instead of the ignition stroke? cheack that your cam timing is right if you have had the timing belt off ? reset to top dead center then make sure you are on the right stroke

Im trying to figure out what is all in the timing belt system on a 92 sunbird. Its like the 3rd one down???? im thinking its the water pump but im not exactly sure and i cant find any diagrams on it.

After 2 belts you should know about how to set the timing marks. With a 17 year old car, the water pump bearing and the belt tensioner are probably worn. They are the cheaper of the items on the belt. If you have A/C remember if it was on the last 3 times the belt failed. I would not suspect the alternator unless you replaced each one shortly after the belt broke.
If you have A/C, the compressor could have momentarily frozen if too much moisture is in the system.
A backfire can cause the timing to jump and will bust the belt. There have been several people on Fixya with similar cars driving along just fine and for no reason the belt pops. Get a good brand of belt and if somehow possible you see a date on it- go for a newer one that is not dry rotted hanging on a shelf somewhere.
Finally, check the alignment of the pulleys which would be the A/C and Alternator. One misplaced washer can change the track of the belt.
