Using a long 1/2in breaker bar or ratchet of good quality and a socket, place socket on bolt and position ratchet or breaker bar so that the end rests on the frame or the ground on the DRIVER side . Make sure you have the ratchet in the "off" position and turn the ignition to the start position for a split second while someone else holds the rathet or bar on the bolt. This will break the bolt loose, and if the engine starts when turning ignition to start for a split second it will simply unscrew the bolt all the way. If the starter isn't strong enough to break it loose the first time move the ratchet or breaker bar away from it's resting point just a little bit so that it has to travel slightly before hitting the frame or the ground and this WILL break the bolt loose. "VERY IMPORTANT" make sure end of ratchet or breaker bar is is on TOP of the frame or on the ground on the DRIVER side. Glad to help.

What are you using for a tool? Installers may have used loctite. So a socket and rachet won't do it.You may need an impact gun.

I just ask the question about tools to change the harmonic balancer the vehicle is a '92 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera 6 cylinder with a 3.3 motor.

This vehicle will require a special puller to remove the balancer once the crankbolt is removed. This bolt is usually 21mm or 22mm in socket size if I remember. You will have to remove the wheel and inner splash sheild to access the bolt. The puller can usually be rented from most auto supply stores for a small fee.

1 want to pull off a harmonic balancer off a oldsmoble cutlass cieras without jumping out or time

if your just pulling it off to change the front seal. all you need to do is remove the belts off of the accs. then remove the bolts out of the balancer and use a puller to remove it. it will stay in time. the timing gear has a key on the crank to hold it in postion.

Where exactly is a crank sensor on a 1988 olds. 2.8 v6

should be behind the bottom pulley(harmonic balancer)(crankshaft pulley). You will have to remove the bolt in the pulley first,to do this. You will have to remove the starter or there might be a small shield where the tranny and engine attach. This will give you a way to hold the engine so you can remove the bolt.I use an old main bearing and put in the teeth on flywheel.once bolt out You will have to get a 2 or 3 jaw puller and pull the pulley off.

Harmonic balancer is going out! do you have to pull the motor ?

No. The balancer can be pulled off from the crank with no problem. It's the main pulley on the engine. It has a big bolt at the center that holds the pulley onto the crank, that bolt needs to come off. Then the pulley (harmonic balancer) can come off.
