Where is the TV (throtle valve) cable on 4.9 six cylinder engine.

Need to adjust this after installation of a new transmission.

    the TV is in the trans. the adjustment is at the throttle body.

The throttle valve is inside the transmission. What you need to adjust is the throttle valve cable.

The 24-valve overhead system is a "low-maintenance"
design. Routine adjustments are no longer
necessary, however, measurement should still take
place when trouble-shooting performance problems,
or upon completion of a repair that includes removal
and installation of the valve train components or
injectors.
(1) Disconnect battery negative cables.
(2) Remove cylinder head cover (Refer to 9 -
ENGINE/CYLINDER HEAD/CYLINDER HEAD
COVER(S) - REMOVAL).
(3) Using the crankshaft barring tool #7471-B,
rotate crankshaft to align damper TDC mark to
12:00 o'clock position.
(a) If both number one cylinder rocker levers are
loose, continue to next step.
(b) If both number one clylinder rocker levers
are not loose, rotate crankshaft 360 degrees.
(4) With the engine in this position, valve lash can
be measured at the following rocker arms: INTAKE
1-2-4 / EXHAUST 1-3-5. Measure the valve lash by
inserting a feeler gauge between the rocker arm
socket and crosshead (Fig. 32). Refer to VALVE
LASH LIMIT CHART for the correct specifications. If
the measurement falls within the limits, adjustment/
resetting is not necessary. If measurement
finds the lash outside of the limits, adjustment/resetting
is required.

(5) If adjustment/resetting is required, loosen the
lock nut on rocker arms and turn the adjusting screw
until the desired lash is obtained:
² INTAKE 0.254 mm (0.010 in.)
² EXHAUST 0.508 mm (0.020 in.) Tighten the
lock nut to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) and re-check the valve
lash.
(6) Using the crankshaft barring tool, rotate the
crankshaft one revolution (360°) to align the
damper TDC mark to the 12 o'clock position.
(7) With the engine in this position, valve lash can
be measured at the remaining rocker arms: INTAKE
3-5-6 / EXHAUST 2-4-6. Use the same method as
above for determining whether adjustment is necessary,
and adjust those that are found to be outside of
the limits.
(8) Install the cylinder head cover (Refer to 9 -
ENGINE/CYLINDER HEAD/CYLINDER HEAD
COVER(S) - INSTALLATION).
(9) Connect the battery negative cables.

Throttle Valve Cable Ajustment on a 2nd Gen Dodge Ram


<b> <p>Before you begin:<br /></b> <p>This tip is to show second generation Dodge Ram truck owners with the automatic transmission how to properly adjust the shift points of their transmission. These pictures are from my 1999 Ram 1500<br /> <p>with the 5.9 liter V-8 engine. When I bought my truck, I quickly decided I didn't like the factory set shift points. It shifted too soon under light and medium throttle...and passing gear/kickdown required a lot of gas pedal to achieve. My desire was to have the 1-2 shift and the 2-3 shift occur at a higher road speed/<br /> <p>engine rpm and to have a more sensitive kickdown. In my case, this was accomplished by adjusting the transmission throttle pressure cable only 1/4" (0.25 inches). What is the throttle pressure cable? Between the throttle linkage and the driver's side of the transmission there is a cable that causes a valve inside the transmission to move in relation to throttle position (gas pedal position). This cable is also referred to as the Throttle Valve (T.V.) cable.<br /> <p> <br /> <p>What does it do? The T.V. cable moves the throttle valve in the transmission.....which in turn controls THREE things: <br /> <p> <br /> <p>1) the transmission line pressure and <br /> <p>2) the transmission shift timing and<br /> <p>3) the transmission kickdown (or passing gear). At a greater throttle opening...say 3/4 throttle... that same 1/8" of cable adjustment will make more of a difference.<br /> <p> <br /> <p>When you're finished adjusting, replace the locking clip and road test it. Pay close attention to the light and medium throttle shift firmness and timing.<br />

Torque specs for 3.2 1995 heads on my isuzu... I need to fix the car ASAP....


Hi, to install follow the procedure below:


  1. Install new camshaft seals and retaining plates onto the cylinder. Tighten the right camshaft seal retaining plate 6mm bolts to 65 inch lbs. Tighten the left camshaft seal retaining plate 8mm bolts to 191 inch lbs.
  2. Thoroughly clean the cylinder head and engine block sealing surfaces.
  3. Place a new head gasket on the engine block and carefully position the cylinder head on top of the new gasket.

Do not reuse or apply oil to the cylinder head bolts.
  1. Install new cylinder head bolts and torque them in sequence to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm) for the M11 bolts and 15 ft. lbs. (21 Nm) for the M8 bolts.
  2. Install the dipstick tube bracket to the cylinder head.
  3. Connect the front exhaust pipes to the exhaust manifolds. Tighten the exhaust bolts to 48 ft. lbs. (67 Nm).
  4. Install the power steering pump bracket. Torque the mounting bolts to 34 ft. lbs. (46 Nm).
  5. Install the cylinder head covers.
  6. Install the timing belt and the auto tensioner (pusher). Torque the mounting bolt to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm).
  7. Install the timing belt cover and oil cooler hoses and bracket.
  8. Install the crankshaft pulley. Torque the center bolt to 123 ft. lbs. (167 Nm).
  9. Install the fan pulley assembly.
  10. Install the power steering pump.
  11. Install the accessory drive belts.
  12. Install the engine coolant manifold and the heater hose.
  13. Install the intake manifold. Torque the nuts and bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (24 Nm) in a crisscross pattern.
  14. Install the fuel injector connectors and the fuel hoses to the fuel rail.
  15. Install the common chamber. Torque the nuts and bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).
  16. Install the EGR valve assembly. Torque the mounting bolts on the valve side to 69 inch lbs. (8 Nm) and the bolts on the exhaust side to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
  17. Connect the evaporative emission canister purge hose.
  18. Connect the fuel pressure control valve vacuum hose.
  19. Connect the positive crankcase ventilation hose.
  20. Install the throttle body assembly. Torque the mounting bolts to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm).
  21. Connect the vacuum hoses to the throttle body.
  22. Install the ignition control module and the spark plug wires.
  23. Connect the MAP sensor; Canister vacuum switching valve (VSV); Exhaust gas recirculation (VSV); Intake air temperature sensor and ground connectors.
  24. Connect the vacuum booster hose.
  25. Connect the air vacuum hose.
  26. Connect the accelerator cable. Adjust the accelerator cable by pulling the cable housing while closing the throttle valve and tightening the adjusting nut and screw cap by hand temporarily. Now loosen the adjusting nut by three turns and then tightening the screw cap. Make sure the throttle valve reaches the screw stop when the throttle is closed.
  27. Install the cooling fan assembly and the upper fan shroud.
  28. Install the air cleaner assembly.
  29. Connect the negative battery cable.
  30. Refill and bleed the cooling system.
  31. Refill and bleed the power steering pump if necessary.
  32. Refill the engine with fresh oil.
  33. Run the engine and check for leaks and proper compression.

There is a tapping noise in the motor but its not knocking I think its a lifter it hasent lost any power and its really not getting worse I would like to know what the spec is for tighing down the lifter...


Depends on which engine you have. If you have


ADJUSTMENT Although it is sometimes possible to reuse an old cylinder head cover gasket, in most cases it makes more sense to purchase a new one before beginning the procedure. Some vehicles may require the use of silicone sealant either with or without a new cover gasket. For more details, please refer to the cylinder head cover procedures in Engine & Engine Overhaul of this repair guide and refer to the gasket manufacturer's instructions.

Z24i Engine
See Figures 1, 2 and 3
For the intake valves: 1-4-5-8 valve clearance is 0.012 in. (0.30mm). For the exhaust valves: 2-3-6-7 valve clearance is 0.012 in. (0.30mm). The pivot locknut torque specification is 12-16 ft. lbs. (16-22 Nm).

  1. The valves must be adjusted with the engine warm, so start the truck and run the engine until the needle on the temperature gauge reaches the middle setting. After the engine is warm, shut it off.
  2. Note the location of any wires and hoses which may interfere with cylinder head cover removal, disconnect them and move them to one side. Remove the bolts holding the cylinder head cover in place and remove the cover. Remember, the engine will be hot, so be careful!

  1. Rotate the crankshaft until the timing marks indicate that the No. 1 piston is at TDC of the compression stroke. If you're not sure of which stroke you're on, remove the No. 1 spark plug and hold your thumb over the hole. Pressure will be felt as the piston starts up on the compression stroke.
  2. Refer to the accompanying illustration (upper part), then check valves (1), (2), (4) and (6) using a flat bladed feeler gauge. The feeler gauge should pass between the valve stem end and the rocker arm screw with a very slight drag. Insert the feeler gauge straight, not at an angle.
  3. If the clearance is not within the specified value, loosen the rocker arm lock nut and turn the rocker arm screw to obtain the proper clearance. After correct clearance is obtained, tighten the locknut.
  4. Rotate the crankshaft until the timing marks indicate that the No. 4 piston is at TDC of the compression stroke. If you're not sure of which stroke you're on, remove the No. 4 spark plug and hold your thumb over the hole. Pressure will be felt as the piston starts up on the compression stroke.
  5. See the illustration (lower part), then check valves (3), (5), (7) and (8). Check and adjust valve clearance as necessary.
  6. Install the cylinder head cover gasket, the cover itself and any wires or hoses which were removed. Check the engine oil level.

KA24E, VG30i and VG30E Engines

These models utilize hydraulic valve lifters. Periodic adjustment is neither necessary or possible. There is however a bleed down procedure that is necessary when the valve train has been disassembled.
HYDRAULIC LIFTER BLEED DOWN
  1. Remove the cylinder head cover.
  2. Check the lifters for proper operation by pushing hard on each lifter with fingertip pressure.
  3. If the valve lifter moves more than 0.04 in. (1mm), air may be inside it. Make sure the rocker arm is not on the cam lobe when making this check.
  4. Install the cylinder head cover.
  5. If there was air in the lifters, bleed the air by running the engine at 1000 rpm for 10 minutes.

How to remove valve cover to replace valve cover gasket


REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

1C-LTC and 2CL-TC Engines
(see Figures 1 and 2)
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove and label all electrical wiring, connectors and vacuum hoses necessary to gain removal clearance.

  1. Disconnect the PCV hose.
  2. Remove the six nuts and seal washers from the cylinder head cover. Loosen them in a crisscross pattern.
  3. Remove the cylinder head cover and the cover gasket from the cylinder head. Discard the gasket and replace with a new one.

To install:
  1. With a wire brush or gasket scraper, remove all the old gasket material from the cylinder head and the cylinder head cover gasket surfaces.
  2. When the cylinder head surfaces are free and clean, apply beads of sealant to the cylinder head in the locations shown in the accompanying illustration.

  1. Install the new gasket in the cover. Make sure that the gasket seats evenly.
  2. Place the cover with the gasket onto the cylinder head.
  3. Install the six nuts and seal washers. Tighten the nuts to 65 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  4. Connect the PCV hose. Connect all removed vacuum hoses, connectors and electrical wiring. Connect the negative battery cable.
  5. Start the engine and inspect for oil leaks. Repair any leaks as necessary.

is this a stick? either way , bad synchro in 1st to 2nd gear... Engine idle is affected when sitting still and applying brakes.... thats normal

Yes, it can damage the transmission. The throttle valve cable controls a modulated pressure - according to throttle opening. A missing or improperly adjusted tv cable results in too low pressure. You didn't state clearly if cable has been installed now. Be sure to install and then make proper adjustment. It should be a self-adjusting cable but they most always need a bit of tweeking as the self-adjust is imo a poor design. Too little space here but you can probably google the adjustment proceedure. Hopefully it wasn't damaged and you'll be OK with proper adjustment. Good luck.

700R4/2004R TV Cable Adjustment Instructions WARNING! IMPORTANT NOTICE!
POST INSTALLATION ADJUSTMENT.
It is imperative that after your new TCI® 700R4/2004R transmission has been installed that the Throttle Valve (TV) Cable gets adjusted properly, DAMAGE WILL OCCUR to the transmission, voiding the warranty. If you are unsure about the proper adjustment needed, call TCI®'s tech line for help or refer to a General Motors service manual for additional information and reference.
Function of the TV Cable: Many people believe that this is a detent downshift cable and that this is the only function that the cable performs. In actuality, the TV Cable controls line pressures, shift points, part throttle downshifts and detent downshifts. The cable functions similarly to the combination vacuum modulator/cable systems found on other automatic transmissions.
TV Cable Connection: If you are retrofitting your TCI® 700R4/2004R transmission in place of a different model transmission (i.e. TH-350 or TH-400) it is imperative that you follow the TV Cable bracket fabrication instructions. If your TCI® 700R4/2004R is replacing an original 700R4/2004R then skip to Step 2.
Step 1 Obtain a cable that is designed for use with the 700R4/2004R transmission. The TH-350 and older TH-200 cables are designed differently and will not work. A salvage yard cable may work but be forewarned: There are about 30 different length cables found on stock vehicles and a cable that is too short in your application will not work. Also, used cables could have a number of problems as well, including stretched cables, damaged sheathing or housings or mutilated cable ends. TCI® recommends our universal TV Cable (TCI® 376800) that is designed to work correctly in any 700R4/2004R application.
gm_tv_fig1.gifStep 2 With the carburetor/throttle body end of the TV Cable disconnected, pull the link out of the transmission and fit the cable end to the link as shown in Figure 1. Push the TV Cable sheath into the seal in the transmission and tighten the 10mm retaining bolt. If your vehicle has a factory installed bracket for the TV Cable then skip to Step 4.
Step 3 Install a bracket that will allow the TV Cable to mount to the carburetor/throttle body. TCI® carries two brackets: TCI® 376700 works with Rochester Quadrajets, Carter AFBs or Edelbrock Performer carburetors. TCI® 376800 works with most Holley carburetors.
If you are using a Chevrolet TBI/TPI induction system, then correct brackets can be obtained from a salvage yard or a local car dealership.
Figure 2 demonstrates the correct geometry for the TV Cable mounting position. Use the following procedure to determine if your ADJUSTER MOUNTING POINT is correct.
a. Push in the Adjust Tab and retract the Slider in the direction shown in Figure 3.
b. Without allowing the Slider to move, pull the cable until it stops and measure from the mounting bracket to the cable end. Add 3/16" to this measurement and that will determine the ADJUSTER MOUNTING POINT distance at full throttle (WOT).
gm_tv_fig2.gifc. Also note in Figure 2 that the distance from the throttle shaft to the cable end is referenced. This distance must be between 1 7/64" and 1 1/8"! The cable end mounting point should follow a 78° arc between closed throttle and WOT in order to achieve the proper amount of pull on the cable.
Step 4 Adjustment of the TV Cable on a gasoline engine. For a diesel application go to Step 5.
a. Adjustments are made with the engine off. Locate the Adjust Tab on the cable housing. Press in the tab and push the slider as shown in Figure 3.
b. Release the tab and rotate the throttle lever to WOT and the cable will self adjust itself as evidenced by a few audible clicks. Release the throttle lever and check the cable for any signs of binding or sticking.

1-2…………………15-20 MPH
2-3…………………25-30 MPH
3-4…………………40-45 MPH
If the cable is adjusted too loosely your transmission will exhibit soft, stacked shifts (not spread out). DO NOT CONTINUE DRIVING VEHICLE IF THIS HAPPENS! Immediately readjust cable. If you continue to have problems, please contact TCI®'s tech department for assistance.
Step 5 Adjustments of the TV Cable on a diesel engine.
a. Adjustments are made with the engine off. If equipped with cruise control, remove the control rod.
b. Disconnect the TV Cable end from the throttle lever.
c. Loosen the locknut on the pump rod and shorten several turns.
d. Turn throttle lever to WOT and tighten the pump rod locknut.
e. Lengthen pump rod until injection pump lever contacts the full throttle stop.
f. Release the throttle lever and tighten the pump rod locknut.
g. Remove pump rod from the throttle lever.
h. Reconnect the TV Cable end to the throttle lever.
i. Press in the Adjust Tab and move Slider as shown in Figure 3.
j. Release the tab and rotate the throttle lever to WOT and the cable will self adjust itself as evidenced by a few audible clicks. Release the throttle lever and check the cable for any signs of binding or sticking.
k. Reconnect the pump rod and cruise control throttle rod, if equipped.
l. If equipped with cruise control, adjust servo throttle rod to minimum slack.
m. Road test the vehicle. Under moderate acceleration your shift points should be close to the following:
1-2…………………15-20 MPH
2-3…………………25-30 MPH
3-4…………………40-45 MPH
n. If the cable is adjusted too loosely your transmission will exhibit soft, stacked shifts (not spread out). DO NOT CONTINUE DRIVING VEHICLE IF THIS HAPPENS! Immediately readjust cable. If you continue to have problems, please contact TCI®'s tech department for assistance.
