Your description is pretty good. try finding one in a junkyard you will save a bunch of $. I might call it an intermediate bracket, but I always make up my own names for stuff...and funny, parts guys understand what I say!

Larry I use to sell a lot of those in the midwest ten years ago for they rusted away so fast. Good luck finding a good one. Best bet is out west or Texas

Replace idler pully on 92 Nissan. Pathfinder 4~4

Looks like there is an idler pulley for the ac belt. The alternator and ps belts are adjusted by moving the components.
The pulley is available without the bracket, so you should be able to loosen the center bolt without removing the bracket. There is an adjusting bolt or rod that you turn to tighten or loosen the belt once you have loosened the bolts for the bracket.

Trying to replace the idler pulley and can't get the motor mount bracket out to access the pully - any suggestions?

i'm in the same boat as you. this appears to be an exceptionally fun project! in order to remove the motor mount you need to make sure you have a engine hoist to support the load. perhaps you might be able use a good floor jack and try to support the motor from the bottom. In any case when the motor is propped and the load is balanced, the motor mount should be easy to remove -- just take out the 4 bolts. if however the weight of the motor is not sufficiently supported then it can truly be a nightmare to remove the mount. after removing the mount you can remove the other bracket and finally have access to the idler pulley!!

check the idler/tensioner pully's and the alternator pully, there is a common problem with one of these 3 going bad, usually an idler pully the best way to check is to get a mechanics stethescope and touch the end to the bolt on the idler pully's you will notice a very distinct sound difference from a smooth pully and one with bad bearings. gm tech here, seen many of these

it is your idler pulley. get it from dealer comes with bracket, just use pulley off bracket. take your belt off and your idler pulley is lower right hand side(facing your engine). 15mm bolt, replace pulley and reinstall your belt. it;s a common problem on trailblazers
