The thermostat is in the thermostat housing at the end of the upper radiator hose. you dont have to remove the upper intake manifold to get to it. its accessable by simply removing the air cleaner box. if you have trouble getting to it you can remove the throttle body at the end of the intake (2 bolts). i wouldnt take it to a garage because the labor time is long causing a really high cost in labor, and the mechanic will end up doin a quicker, less work involved way anyway although you still be paying for the R&R of the upper intake and all the vitals (wiring, vacuum, fuel and coolant lines) removed.

Under the intake plenum, which will have to be removed before you can access the thermostat.
I suggest having it done by a garage mechanic.

THESE VAN ARE KNOW FOR INTAKE GASKETS LEAKING INTERNALLY,CAUSING A MIS-FIRE. LOOK UNDER THROTTLE BODY AREA FOR COOLANT LAYING IN THE GULLY IF YOU SEE ANYTHING REPLACE INTAKE GASKETS FIRST. IF NOTHING IS LEAKING SPRAY SOME SOAPY WATER ON THE SPARK PLUG WIRES WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING AND CHECK FOR ARCHING, IF ARCHING IS FOUND REPLACE THE PLUGS AND WIRES.

I have a 2003 chevy venture van 3.4 V6 I need to know where #1 spark plug is located on the engine

Number one on a V6 is on the end that drives the alternator. One bank is closer to that end. So passengers side, front of car.

Engine

The engine and cradle do indeed come out the bottom easier. when the cradle is supported and dropped free from the body the body front will be light enough to be picked up by the engine hoist far enough to pull the cradle assembly out from underneath

check your coolant level...if its too low then it will not flow through the heater core correctly to generate the heat.
