What you need to check is are you getting any spark at the spark plugs, to do this, unplug one of your spark plug wires at the spark plug, find a screwdriver that will fit inside the spark plug wire housing, make sure your screwdriver has a insulated or non conductive handle, hold the steel shank of the screwdriver about 1/8"-1/4" from your exhaust manifold and have someone crank the engine, just for a second or two, look to see if there is spark jumping from the screwdriver shank to the manifold, if there is, then you eclectically is probably OK.
second you need to check your fuel, you really should have a fuel pressure gage but for now lets just do a preliminary check.
find your fuel line going to the intake manifold (steel tubing 5/16"-3/8" diameter) you need to disconnect the line somewhere between the fuel pump and the intake manifold. you'll need a can.
hold the can under the fuel line so fuel doesn't go everywhere, then have someone crank the engine, if it is an electric fuel pump you wont need any help, all you'll need to do is turn the key on and it should start pumping fuel, the fuel discharge should be very noticeable, it will really start coming out fast and furious.
If you don't have fuel coming from the line or very little, your fuel pump or fuel filter is probably bad.
alot of vehicles will stop running on just a plugged up fuel filter, but normally it will give you some warning, like your engine will start to miss or loss of power on hill or accelerations. If you haven't experienced any problems until now, i doubt its the filter.
see if you can check those two items out and let me know what you find
buy the way, alot of the newer vehicles on the road today use special connection clips to connect fuel lines, you may need a tool to get the line disconnected, there little plastic tools in different sizes depending on the size of your fuel line. if you need one and your doing this yourself, borrow one or at the automotive house ask for a fuel line quick disconnect tool. i don't think there alot of money. make sure your car isn't out of gas.
good luck and let me know how you make out.
would appreciate your feedback, please

your spark plugs may need cleaning or replacing, check to see what the condition of your plugs are in.

no i dont, but i have a dodge and i have to replace the plugs regually because of oil fouling, cleaning doesnt seem to help.

im really sorry but i dont know what else to tell you other than have your fuel pressure checked, if its fuel injected your injectors may be failing.

foreign cars are a real bear cat sometimes.

    sorry i couldnt help you

    good luck

My 1995 Nissan 200sx had same problem, I rented a fuel pressure gauge from auto zone for free (with $160 deposit) and I'm getting 60 psi while it's trying to start. It's supposed to be at 35 to 43 psi. With a new fuel filter 2years ago I don't think it's that but maybe the pump.

Replacing starter in 98 nissan 200sx

borrow some ramps you need to get under to remove the starter. also ask for some one to give you a push start. failing that you will need a jack and lift up the car to get to the motor.

As the problem started when your son had a look at the fuses, I'd suggest you check them yourself. Make sure they're good and in the correct slots.

My nissan 1997 quest engine was changed and since then it has not started after it was runed for about 2 hrs. what could be the problem

Crank and wont start or wont crank too? Are you check firing order, compression and fuel pressure? Could be theft system? Scan the PCM to know if some fault code is stored!

96 nissan 200sx started and ran rough for 10 sec then died and wont restart. distributor is turning. no fault codes. has good fuel pressure. spark looked weak so i changed cap and rotor. still wont start....

something to ponder over here as iam not sure what could be the problem here but if its a weak spark then it could be module /coil/crank sensor in that order .These problems will not show up as fault codes i dont think as they are working but not to full efficiency

1987 Nissan 200SX cranks but hard to start

Thats a classic sign of having your engine run too rich. That puffy layer of ash is carbon which means your engine is not burning gas properly or completely which means is misfiring thats why the car is shaking. Try having your oxygen sensors checked and make sure you are using good fuel.
