Auto parts stores have dye to add to your coolant or oil to determine the leak. You will need an ultrviolet lamp also for this test

Why is thick white smoke roaring out the exhaust of my 1990 Camaro RS 5.0 305? I don't see any evidence of water in oil. Oil is clean not milky

Check engine compression. It is possible for water to be leaking into a cylinder and not be leaking into the oil.

Water was found leaking from my oil pan and car is overheating. I have a 95 Mazda MX3

Is it leaking FROM the oil pan, or dripping OFF the oil pan?

If its dripping OFF the oil pan, that leads me to beleive you have a coolant leak somewhere. Check the coolant level. Check for leaks.

Check your oil, if the oil is milky/coffee colored. Or if your coolant looks kinda nasty, you may be looking at a headgasket.

Loosing coolant and can not find leak

Three additonal places to check:

1) Pull your dip stick and see if the oil on it shows signs of coolant in it. The oil would appear milky beige in color. This would indicate a leaking head gasket into the oil system.

2) Check for leaking coolant on the passenger side fire wall inside the vehicle. This would indicate a leaking heater core.

3) Check the exhaust when the car is running looking for white steam. This would indicate a leaking head gasket into a cylinder.

I have a water leak on my 96 camaro. It has a 3.8 v6 engine. The water is leaking, not from the water pump itself but from behind the part the water pump mounts on. Not immediately behind the water pump...

It is your Lower Imtake Manifold gasket (LIM). Late Production Camaros and Firebirds used Dex-Cool coolant which nortoriously caused the LMI to actually disintegrate. The failure of the LIM allows coolant to leak to the exterior of the engine as well as into the interior of the engine eventually getting into your oil. Check your oil for a brown milky color... if you have it immediately drive your car to you favorite repair shop and replace the LIM gasket. The GM 3.1L, 3.4L and 3.8L engines are famous for disintegrated LIM gaskets and a good shop will have replaced 30-50 of these in a year. The LMI is part of the reason the public dissed Pontiac and eventually led to its demise (not to mention bad management at GM). Find a shop familiar with the LIM problem and it shouldn't cost more than $500 to replace (or less). If you have any mechanical skill you can replace it yourself... the gasket kit costs about $35 at NAPA AutoParts and it takes a whole Saturday if it's your first time. I just finished replacing the LMI on my wife's '94 Firebird.

Coolant leaking into Oil

If you take your radiator cap off when your car is cool, then crank the engine, you can watch the water level. if the water sprays out immediately, it is most likely a gasket, either head gasket or intake. If the engine has to warm up a little before bubbles appear in the water or it begins to run over, then it will probably be a cracked head, as the crack would have to warm up and expand to allow the water to leak through. Let me know if this helps :)
