I know what VSS stands for, I didn't know if the poster did. I have had people in the past refer to a wheel speed sensor as a VSS. I was just trying to make sure we were talking about the same thing. And you're right not a serviceable part, time to replace it.

I assume you are asking about vehicle speed sensor. The one for the speedometer, or wheel speed sensor for the ABS?

A VSS is short for vehicle speed sensor which is refered only to the transmission. It has nothing to do with the braking system. The sensors located on the hub & bearing assemblies for each wheel are pick up sensors which are grooved for a magnetic sensor at the end of the wiring harness to each wheel that wires into the anti lock braking motor assembly

Speedometer quits working, engine light comes on and sport light flashes. What causes this? What part do I need to repair this?

run the fault codes and look for a problem vehicle speed sensor (VSS)
it controls the speedo reports , faults in the transmission ( engine light) and also reports to the TCM

Speedometer quit working on a 1999 accord

First thing I'd do is look at the VSS (Vehicle speed sensor). Do a GOOGLE search for 1999 Honda Accord Speed sensor and you'll pull up You Tube videos on how to do this.

Speed sensor wire where is it? how i can repair or change'

The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is a magnetic pick-up sensor that sends a signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and the speedometer. The sensor measures the rotation of the output shaft on the transaxle and sends an AC voltage signal to the PCM which determines the corresponding vehicle speed.

The Vehicle Speed Sensor is located mounted on transmission ...

Hello i just changed my speed sensor on my 91 accord ex automatic and still havent gotten a reading. any ideas

The VSS is the common problem, but if that didn't fix the problem then more than likely the electronic speedo has failed and will need to be pulled and sent out for repair, here is one such repair center on the Internet.

1997 honda accord se need to change vss, where

For 1997 Honda Accord 2.2L MFI 4cyl the Vehicle Speed Sensor - Location is located mounted on transmission.

The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is a magnetic pick-up sensor that sends a signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and the speedometer. The sensor measures the rotation of the output shaft on the transaxle and sends an AC voltage signal to the PCM that determines the corresponding vehicle speed.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disengage the wiring harness connector from the VSS.
  3. Using a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM), measure the resistance (ohmmeter function) between the sensor terminals. If the resistance is 190-250 ohms, the sensor is okay.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the three terminal connector from the vehicle speed sensor (VSS).
  3. Remove the fasteners that secure the VSS to the transaxle housing assembly.
  4. Remove the VSS.
To install:
  1. Install the VSS.
  2. Install the mounting bolts.
  3. Connect the three terminal connector to the sensor.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable.
Hope helps (remember rated this).

The mile counter stopped working yesterday. what do i do?

In older cars these were cable actuated but in your car it is all electronic and related to the VSS or Vehicle Speed Sensor. Are you having SPEEDOMETER issues as well, such as not registering how fast you are going? The VSS is located on the transaxle and is an easy repair for a skilled person. There is risk for a DIY person as you can disconnect the drive linkage by accident when doing this repair. A brand, spanking new VSS from a Honda Dealer is $154.95 (P/N 78410-SY0003, Some good info can be found at this site about the part, as well as a diagram.

If you want to do this yourself, I suggest doing to this site and reading the forums. Many others have done it and offer pictures, advice, etc.

1999 Saturn sl speed sensor

The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is located in the differential area of the transaxle. Also, to replace it should be fairly simple. I wish I could give a better answer exactly where it is at, but I have you the answer straight out of the Haynes manual.

To replace the VSS, disconnect the electrical connector from the VSS. Then remove the retaining bolt and lift the VSS from the Transaxle or simply unscrew the VSS. Installation is the reverse of removal.
