Question about 1990 Jaguar XJ6
Over the last year i notice the lifters have been making slite ticking sound ' i asume its just old age.it runs perfect this car is expensive to work on ' this car has been babied for 20 years the question is should i be looking to sell this car quik or is this ticking noise something to worry about ?????????
No real worry, try adding some Marvel oil to it or using a decent synthetic oil. Either, or both should help get any gunk out of the hydraulic part of the lifters, and neither will do any harm. Don't expect the noise to disappear instantly though, it took a long time to get that way. Don't use any heavy additive or single grade oil (like 40 weight) That will jam up the oil control rings on your pistons.
