Question about 1989 Honda Prelude

My 1989 Honda Prelude will crank but won't start!

This is what I know. I checked for spark, got it; sprayed carb cleanner in the intake hose and the car attempted to start; now I am certain that I am not getting fuel. There are two questions that I have and they are, would there be power at the fuel pump when key is switched to start and secondly if the answer is yes then where is the relay located that controls the fuel pump because I checked back there and I get no power what so ever and I just feel that it is something with that relay or something else in that system.

Won't start

Check if there is spark, eventually replace spark plugs.

Check air intake and air filter.

Check fuel filter and check that the fuel pump is fine, that there is pressure and pump is not noisy.

Use the be able to start with giving it gas now I cam't start it at all it wont crank over.

On any no start situation, you have to figure out if you are dealing with a fuel problem or spark problem.
Can you start it by spraying carb cleaner into the intake hose ?
Have you checked the fuel pressure with a gauge ?

Engine won't start

If you have spark at the right time, compression, and fuel, you should have combustion.
Was it running before you had the work done ?
Is it possible the distributor timing is off ?
You know for sure the plugs are firing, not just the coil ? And the accel pump in the carb is spraying gas ? And the choke is closed ?
A major vac leak like the PCV valve hose or intake gasket could keep it from starting.

I have a 1989 honda accord,it will start and idle high.but, when you kick down it will not idle,it has a 2brl carb. on it.

I ran into the same thing on my mom's 89 accord.... I thought it was the choke..... but I found out it was a vacuum leak on a vacuum line.... I found it by spraying carb cleaner on hoses lines with car running it don't take a lot just spray a little and if the engine revs up more you know where about the leak is and can inspect it.... check the intake around the carb and vac lines too...

Engine will not run, seems like it is not getting gas?

Spray carb spray or starter fluid into intake hose then try to start. If starts then suspect fuel pump and or fuel pump relay. If does not start check spark. Pull off spark plug wire and ground to metal make sure no fuel is present and be careful not to spark yourself, crank car while grounding out wire if no spark suspect coil, fuse, ignition control module, crank sensor, wiring, or computer.

My 1989 prelude looses rpms when i press the brakes

Hi,
Sounds like your power brake Vacuum Booster has a leak. The vacuum
leak will cause the engine to lose RPM.
You should have it checked out as it will eventually start affecting your
brakes.

1989 honda prelude. engine surges. from normal to 2100 rpms

There is a warm up valve on the throttle body(should have 2 small coolant hoses). remove the valve and have someone start the car while you block the port to the valve on the intake. If that clears up the problem you can cut a piece of cardboard to mount in between the valve and intake.should straighten it out.

1989 Honda Prelude won't start

I suspect that your spark plug wires or your distributor is going out. Check your spark wires and distributor. To do that take out #1 spark plug wire from the spark plug. Next take out your spark plug then put it in the spark plug wire. Then turn on car and take a look at the spark plug to see if it's getting a spark. Do this with all the spark plug. If it is your spark plug wire I would replace all of them.
