Wheels squeak but stop when squeaking. Also ECM

I have been test driving a near perfect 96 Mercury sable. When I drive the wheels on both sides squeak but stop when squeaking when I brake.

Also I had a goodyear read the diagnostics and they said I need a new ECM. I dont have the codes though. The stealership said 400-800 because I didn't have the exact vin. What do you think.

Thank you gentlemen. Good to hear it's possible that it's a brake problem rather than a bearing problem. The car has been sitting around for a while so that could be part of it. Thanks for the links for the salvage yards. No way am I going to pay hallf of the car's worth on a ecu.

The wheels squeak could be you may need to wash the wheels to get the brake dust off or replace the front brake pads and try this website to see if they have your car listed if they do you be able to get pictures and diagrams how to repair your car and check on a price at the same time as for the ECM you can get one at a salvage yard at half the cost try to find one closet to you and another website is for repair information and i hope i have been some help to you Michigan Man.

The brake squeal sounds like you have calipers that need to be serviced...basically they need to be taken apart cleaned and far as the ecm, with out the codes I cant give an acurate opinion...however if the list of codes is 10 or more long then the odds are goodyear is correct...check your local carquest or napa for the may be cheaper for you...hope this helps

After driving over a speedbump or pothole, I will sometimes hear a "squeak, sqeak, squeak " coming from the back wheels, or it may be just the back passenger side wheel. It's been doing that on occasion...

Could be your shock absorbers , push down on both sides of the back wing , so push down and let go to see if both sides go up and down the same amount of times . Is one side more bouncy than the other Break light switch on the break peddle might need adjusting so check that , or use a multimeter on your back light good luck colin

Wheels squeak while driving

Sounds like it is time for some ball joints. There is no way to grease them, and when they start squeaking, it is time for replacement. Do both upper and lower on the side that is squeaking.

2000 mercury sable ls squeaks in the front when it gets cold, what should i put on the front end joints and stuff? Highly annoying.

If it happens when the steering wheel is being turned left or right when parking, it could be dry tie rod ends. They will have to be replaced and greased up well to get rid of the sound. This happened to my dad's 1998 Ford Taurus.

2004 mustang squeaks while driving. stops when car stops. just had brakes done. seems the faster I drive the louder the noise is. I have 42,000 miles on the car.

It's possible that the dust shields on the front wheels may have been bent so they rub on the rotor while they were working on the brakes. It's more likely that you have a U-joint starting to go bad. Factory installed U-joints don't come with grease fittings and they dry out creating a squeaking sound when they turn. This should be checked out in the very near future because it has the potential to create a dangerous situation if it was to break. Make sure that the new ones are greasable. Hope this helps.
