Question about 1994 Honda Passport

1 Answer

Vibrating/Shaking when accelerating or being put in reverse

It's me again, last weekend I finally got my leak fixed on my 94 Honda Passport, the final replacement items were: replace intake gasket set, uper plenum gasket, lower manifold gasket and by pass pipe o-ring. the problem I'm having now is that when I accelerate or put my car in reverse, it tends to vibrate or sput when I drive. I've taken it back twice and advise the problem. First the mechanic thought it was the spark plugs, replaced them, still the issue remained. Then I advised them it was the same issue, took it back, I was advised it was a pinched wire, those were replaced as well. I'm still having the issue..Please tell me what the problem is? I'm in process of writing a letter. Is this a vacuum hose or something?????

I've had my timing belt replaced already, and that was checked when my water pumped and hoses were replaced and I was advised, they were good, but where would I get this scan done?

Ok, thank you. so my issue then may not be due to the last services done then? The reason why I'm asking is because I didn't have the problem with my truck running rough or vibrating like this until the gasket repair work and the other items I mention were completed.

    Thank you for your help.

You may have some timing issue with the ignition or valves. i would have the timing chain/belt checked for ware. i also recommend running a scan on the ecm for stored codes that may be saved or locked for some reason. check the crank sensor housing for lose wires as well.

I see. if the firing order is backwards, this can cause this as well. make sure the mechanic got the firing order correct when they changed the wires and plugs. make sure the plugs are gapped properly as well. its possible that it could be related but, highly unlikely.

There could have been some issues with the intake gasket replacement as well. it could be over torqued. this will cause a leak or damage. check that out as well.

Where is the shift solenoid located in the transmission on a 94 Honda passport ex with a v6

Not familar with your exact transmission, but most have more than one shift solenoid. These are usually easy to access once trans bottom pan is removed.

I have a 97 passport and my engine coolant keeps leaking out of a small hole right above the flywheel on the back of the engine block. Is this hole supposed to be there and if so where would the leak...

I Have a 94 Rodeo,3.2l v6 I had the same problem...Yes it is a drain hole..You might have a coolant pipe running under your lower intake if so it's the "O" ring on that pipe..It runs from the upper radiator hose to rear of block...50 cent part. If you are doing it yourself check the other heater hose metal pipe O ring also. towards the front under the thermostat housing. I just fixed mine.I had antifreeze coming out the inspection plates on the trans took off the upper plenium and lower intake and the rubber O ring was shot.Clean out flange use a wire V shaped wheel. make sure the Ring fits Snug on the coolant pipe, dry fit in the flange.( Got assorted sizes at NAPA) put a good coat of Black RTV silicon on O ring,And some in the hole itself press pipe in hole and install the bolts.Allow to set for 3hrs. Again this is on a 94 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2 L V6 5spd. Hope that helps you

When i get up to 40 miles an hour the car has something shaking but only when it accelerates Also today... when starting the car and putting it into reverse it starts revving on its own

The shaking when under acceleration i most likely a bad CV Joint/Axle Assembly.

The revving in reverse could be caused by a crackedvacuum hose that opens up and creates a vacuum leak when the engine twists while it is in reverse.

Reverse lights on 1994 Honda Passport wont work

I think the problem is in the shifter itself. Probably a bad contact after all of the years of use. If your real sneaky you could probably get inside the shifter and bend the contact point back into place.
