Question about 1996 Jeep Cherokee

1 Answer

Not cranking I went out to crank my 1996 Jeep Cherokee this morning. All the lights and bells came on, but when I turned the switch, nothing. No clicks, no nothing. Battery was tested and cleaned the battery terminals, still nothing. Any ideas?

There is a relay in the power distribution box near the battery. Check that. Also, check the block connections on battery leads for clean secure connection. Small wire on starter should have 12v there when cranking (or key turned to start. If power is there and no crank, starter is bad. Last resort, check ignition switch for power in/out.(rare but they do go bad)

remove switch wir the small one from starter motor when it won't crank and test with a test light to see if it has power when key in crank position if has power starter motor or starter solenoid is bfaulty. if no power could be ignition switch or possably immobilizer fault.

Might be your jeep's ecu is bad. Does the check engine light come on your dash, when you turn the ignition key to on, before cranking? If not, the ecu is bad. If the check engine light does come on, it may be the crank sensor is bad on your jeep.
