Question about 1996 Ford Thunderbird LX

1 Answer

Interior light fuse blows

The fuse keeps blowing on my '96 4.6 liter T-Bird that affects the two, switchable dome lights and the door lights (has light package option) and the service tech just keeps replacing it. The fuse lasts a day, or a week or two. Gone through three fuses.

Have him or her check for a ground issue or a bad wire somewhere. You should not be having to do this. This is some sort of electrical issue in the wiring most likely a grounding problem

Interior lights fuse discription

Basically every light that comes on inside the cabin area. Dash, dome, and door lights. All these are controlled by three different areas. Light switch, dimmer switch and the body control module. All the lights have one power source, but three grounds sources.

Check the shut off switch at door & the one at the headlight switch. Sounds like a short in one.

2003 grand am no dash or rear lights fuses keep blowing mechanics cant figure out, tries tracing through driver door didnt work, go over bump it blows out,

Does your interior dome light work,if it doesnt take the dome lamp assembly out and disconnect the wire harness from there, reinstall the fuse and recheck lights,The possible short is coming from 2 likely areas the dome light or the dimmer light, what you do to the dome light to trouble shoot the short you will also perform on the dimmmer switch

Pull the electrical connector to the visors out of the headliner and disconnect it from both visors, see if the short goes away.

Interior lights don't come on. 2003 Pontiac Bonneville

the short is either in the door switches or the dome / interior light fixtures them selves. I would check your door switches 1 at a time does the fuse blow immediatly upon install or when you open a door.

After replacing the gem module does it has to be programed

You definitely have a wiring problem. Fuses are blowing because DC (direct current) power is being short circuited by touching a grounded surface area or a negative wire. If its affecting two interior car functions while on the same fuse circuit, then check where the wires from both functions could or would intersect. In your case the windows roll down and the interior lights come on....they could intersect somewhere near the front door jamb or farther forward towards the fuse panel.

Fuse 8 blows, dome lights

There is no relay, you have a short in the system, I have fixed dozens of dome light problems on the Taurus and it was seldom the same problem from car to car, check the door switch wires first, remove the switch and diconnect it, if the short goes away the wiring is shorted to the door switch. I am sorry but there is never easy solutions to this kind of problem.
