Question about 2005 Dodge Ram 1500

2005 dodge ram 1500 4.7 misfire cylinder 2 52,000

2005 dodge 1500 hemi, 58,000. Code 0300, 2305, 2311, 2317, 0113

Some times engine light will flash and then go away. Other times it will stay on and I have to clear it with a cheap code reader. Then it's fine till the next time. could be ten minutes or ten days. Only happens when slowing down to stop.
It has also given code about the shifting in the tranny, but I lost that code.
Yesterday I was pulling a light load by trailer and pushed teh tow/haul button in the shifter. This seem to even it out and prevent the misfires, but then it would start to shake and vibrate eratically (with haul button on or off) and I would have to shift to second to keep it going. This was with the slightest incline. (It felt like the torque converter was going out)

Changed the o2 sensors. Worked ok for a week then started again. Changed all wires and plugs. Still no help, so changed coil pack on #2. No change. No rotten egg smell.

    What is the FF?

  • texansfour Jun 01, 2009

So far none of the suggestions have worked. But there are some new clues. It's getting worse. It stumbles and throws codes now when driving around 40 - 50 mph. Usually with the least amount of exceleration. If I through it in 2nd gear in will stop. Put it back in drive it stumbles immediately. It seems to be only when in 3rd gear.

In the beginning it did this when slowing down for stop signs or red lights.

    Does this help any?

2305, 2311 and 2317 are insufficient ionization codes ( #2, 4, and 6) usually associated with water in the spark plug tubes. If you have access to compressed air, remove the coils and blow out any water. Put a bit of dielectric grease on the ends of the coil insulators and reinstall. Then retest the problem. This usually happens after an engine wash. 0113 is an intake air temp sensor high, if it was unplugged while the key was on it will come on. 0300 is multiple misfires, a result of the ionization codes. If it misfires bad enough the engine light will flash on and off telling you catalytic converter damage can result. I would check all the plugs for arcing down the sides, usually a black line running vertical on the plug from top to bottom. And as mentioned before possibly water in the tubes. I hope this helps

Hi there,

This can be means that the the car's computer has detected that one of the engine's cylinders is not firing properly. In this case it's cylinder #2.

  • the engine may be harder to start
  • the engine may stumble / stumble, and/or hesitate
  • other symptoms may also be present
This can be cause of the FF:

  • Faulty spark plug or wire
  • Faulty coil (pack)
  • Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
  • Faulty fuel injector
  • Burned exhaust valve
  • Faulty catalytic converter(s)
  • Running out of fuel
  • Poor compression
  • Defective computer
If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

I have a 2005 dodge 1500 5.7 hemi it will not turn over but I can run a ground wire from the battery to the motor and it starts but surges and a lighting bolt light flashes in the dash what is wrong

You need to get a good heavy ground wire from the battery to the engine and not on the exhaust manifold. Then you need a good number 10 wire from the engine to the body. Now the factory did this but you have some corroded connections or damaged wires.

04 DODGE Ram hemi cylinder 3 misfire

Check engine compression and compare. then test running engine compression most engines have about 130-170 cranking compression and about 90-110 running compression. OR bring that cylinder to its Top Dead Center compression stroke apply air to the cylinder and check to see where the air is going open throttle plate bad intake valve, from exhaust pipe bad exhaust valve, from oil cap piston rings.

I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 with 5.7l Hemi. It started running rough and the check engine came on. I had a mechanic friend hook it to his diagnostic computer and it said that the left bank was misfiring....

Usually you get a code that tells you which cylinder or cylinders are acting up.
The code means the cylinder (s) are not providing power but does not tell you why.
So you have to figure out if it is an ignition, compression, or fuel problem to proceed. Could also be a vac leak.

I have a 2005 dodge 1500 with the 4.7 litre engine. The cruise control is intermittent. Sometimes you turn it on and the cruise light stays on for a bit and sometimes it shuts off within a second or so. Any ideas; without the cruise light on I have no cruise.
