Question about 2003 Ford E150

1 Answer

Intermittent starting I have a 2001 f150, 4.2 5spd and the other day it wouldn't start, only crank , engine was at temp. I had it towed back home and started in on my own diagnosis . after checking for spark (yes) Fuel (yes) and compression (an amazing 180-190 in all six) I was ready to give up. I put it all back together and was ready to call the shop when I thought I would try it one more time, and it started ! WTF !!! I use this truck a lot ! as a courier and it has 289xxx miles, It gets started 20 to 30 times a day or more ( a lot of wear and tear I know ) ! But it led me to think of how many times I have actually twisted the key to start it ( approx... 20500 ) over the last two and one half years. Could the ignition switch have that type of intermittent problem , considering the wear ! Thanks , Charlie

Charlie, let me just say...wow! That is ALOT of starts! Fords are good vehicles if they are taken care of. It does seem like an ignition switch problem and those aren't fun to repair. I shouldn't have to tell you that it involves getting into the steering column, and such. My buddy just had the same problem with his F150 about 6 months ago and it was the ignition switch. Maybe there needs to be a CN (customer notification) on this problem. Seems to happen alot on these. Good luck!

CKP sensor or cam sensor. one goes bad and causes other to go bad. easy fix and not too expensive.

My Honda Odyssey won't crank

It could be the starter, or the neutral safety switch in addition to the security module.
Have you checked the starter for power, and can you jumper the solenoid to make it crank ?

I have a 2001 saturn sc1 that is having intermittent starting problems. At times after its been driven ill go out to leave again and it won't start. No clicking when I try and start it either. Wait for...

I am having the same problem. did you figure out what was wrong with yours. I have tested all of the wires in the harness under the dash, they r fine. I pulled off the starter and had it tested; O'rilies said it was fine. It is a 5 speed, and I can push start the car just fine any time. Like yours, some days my car starts, some days it doesn't. The days it starts, it runs fine with no problems starting or running. the problem is the days that it wont start.

Intermittent no start, very strange, very confusing

Sounds like fuel pump going out. I was told by a friend that the pump can get stuck and that by knocking on the fuel tank or by attempting to start that it can kick the pump out of the bad spot and it will start. But it is a sign that it needs to be replaced.
