Question about Mazda Protege

1 Answer

2002 Mazda protege LX - Factory radio and after market radios both test good on the bench but dont work when installed in the car. Connectors seem to be OK. Speakers in the car test out good. Occasionally you hear a "crack" through the speakers with either radio installed, and sometimes the radio can be heard through the speakers normally and then all sound just disappears. In all cases the radio remains on. Is there a factory installed remote amplifier hiding somewhere? The original radio is a factory model 4160.

one of your speakers is blown and shorting out your deck. disconnect one sspeaker at a time and when it starts working fine you know that's the blown one.

Replaced Headunit with after market one, but now the dash lights don't work, Fuses are fine, everything else is fine. Car is 1999 Mazda 323

Hi, there is a factory wire (red with a black stripe) in your car for illuminating the stock radio. This wire is not to be used in an aftermarket radio, so you need to make sure it isn't connected and also isolate and bare wire with electrical tape. Please let me know if you have questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

Mazda Protege wont start.. changed starter

If the starter was bench tested before the install and therefore is a good starter (I have seen new starters out of the box not work.) You will have to consider the possibility that you are having a problem with the contact base of the ignition switch( the electric part of the switch is separate from the key tumblers). Did you bench test your old starter to see if it was still good. If it was still good that would point to the contact base of the ignition switch.
