Ran out of gas, engine shut down. added more gas. will not start

The tapping is the valves hitting against the buyer upper part of engine. The stalling is most likely the computer shutting down engine. You might have engine damage. The tapping comes and goes according to engine rpm the higher the rpm the louder the tapping. If I was have it towed to u mechanic and have them run test engine might be beyond repair

I can feel the truck hesitate or bump while changing lanes on the highway (70-80 MPH) if it ... Now it idles ... My truck has a 4.3 with automatic. trucks runs great after about a hour it .... Well the on/off method sometimes is not Correct.I would suggest you to take it to an auto part store and have them scan it for you for free and they will tell you the exact code with the OBD2 then you can start from there.Good luck

Have the battery load tested, These Durango's are very touchy when it comes to a strong reference voltage to run the many onboard computers.

if it dies on you again, unplug the MAP sensor and plug it back in and see if it starts. If it starts then the MAP sensor needs to be replaced.

Need to adjust idleing speed, by simply turning the screw on the throttle body.

Test for weak spark when it wont run....my guess is that its the ignition module inside distributer...they heat up and shut off spark,then cool down and work again for a while...good luck..Lee

Have you checked the fluid level (vehicle warm, running, in Park)?
