SOURCE: Chevy Suburban 1997 1500 won't start when Cold

it could be a tune up issue such as plug wires plugs . but my guess is its a computer engine temp sensor if it reads 5 degrees out of range it cuold give you a hard start or a no start problems the best way to look at this problem is with a scan tool when it is cold to see if the temp matches outside ambeint air temp 1 or 2 degrees ok b ut not 4 to five there is a nother way to check it buy useing dvom at a temp to omhs chart.

SOURCE: we have a 2003 chevy suburban 5.3 vortec it dies when warmed up

Sounds like either Air mass sensor, Air mass meter or finally the EGR valve this is the exhaust gas recycler I would say that is the fault when they start to go this is what they do until finally the car will barely move.

Also I would check all your air pipes for leaks make sure there is no rips or tears in the pipes, The car will drive fine like you say until you ease of the gas to a stop position it **** in to much air and kills the engine. Air faults are cheaper so look there first.

Hope this helps

SOURCE: 2003 Chevy Suburban-replace alternator

Ok, Alternators are a breeze on these things. There are two bolts that hold it on, and 2 sets of wires. If you haven't taken anything apart yet, and the belt is still on it, here's what to do. You will want one of those rubber or elastic bungee cords, about 2 and a half feet long(this makes it easy). Hook that bungee cord to your hood somewhere, so that it hangs down. Hook the other end on the serpentine belt right next to the alternator pulley. If you need to prop the hood up with a stick or something to keep it up, do so. Pull up on the belt, and watch the pulleys. The one that probably has a plastic pulley on it that moves up and down(this is the tensioner) is the one that you'll put a deep well socket in the middle of with a ratchet, and turn counterclockwise. This will make the belt go loose. Now you can work the belt off the alternator pulley, and once you get it off, the bungee cord will keep it in place, so you don't have to look at the diagram. Otherwise, if it comes off, there is a sticker just under the hood either on the fan shroud or the radiator support that has the belt diagram. Now, you can disconnect the battery, pull the rubber boot down off the nut and post on the back of the alternator, remove the nut and wire, and then unhook the wire from the side of the alternator. Now, you can remove the two bolts that hold the alternator on. You Will need to pry the alternator off at this point, as it fits really tightly in place. A socket extension or a large flat screwdriver works really well for this. Once you get it off, put the new one on exactly as you took the old one off. Note, you will have to release your tension on the tensioner at some point; i just ease it down, or if I can pull it off, wedge it somewhere where it won't loosen very far. Remember, on the tensioner, you're not trying to take the nut off. All you're doing is using it to move the tensioner arm. That's all there is to this job. Sometimes it can be stubborn with the prying part, especially getting it into place. Hope this is what you're after, and if you need more info, leave a comment for me.

97 chevy suburban AC clutch won't engage pressures

Looks like the low pressure switch gets power from a 10amp ac fuse. Power then goes to the ac relay which is powered on by the ac heat controller on the dash. Power then goes thru the high pressure switch to the compressor. The ac relay is grounded to the body. Do you have power on the lite and dark green wires going into the relay and is it grounded ?

If the car is not going into to drive then the transmission has failed or it is very low on fluid.

Battery is most likely shot, batteries are only good for about 3 yrs. Usually show signs of battery wear when the weather gets cold were it takes more juice to turn over your vehicle.

The air on my 1998 chevy suburban blows but it doesn't get cold. I put free-on in it. It only took a little. The compressor will turn manually & will not kick on. fuse ok. electricity in harness ok....

Probably the electric clutch of the compressor is not working. This is the part that uses the power generated from the drive belt to drive the compressor. Normally if this is working, you would hear a sound in the engine compartment once you turn on the ac. Otherwise you may have only the AC blower spinning. If they check out OK, the thermostat may not be working. Your AC will not engage because it may be getting the wrong signal thermostat.

Cool but not cold air from my ac system

It sounds simple enough that you need to recharge your A/C unit. They can stop functioning properly after winter's end especially if they were not used. You should be able to get a recharge kit from your local auto parts store. Your Suburban should use the newer R142a refrigerant.

On your parking brake assembly is a single wire switch. You can unplug it, but you will have to remember not to drive with it set. To replace the switch the whole assembly will have to come out. The switch is about $20 and labor should run about two hours. Good Luck
