Question about 1988 Acura Integra

1 Answer

Is it the clutch or transmission

I have an 1988 Acura Integra that does not move when it is in gear. The clutch pedal feels just as it always has, as does the shifting. But no go. My wife was driving when it went out, she doesn't know what a burned clutch smells like but said something did stink. So what is the simplest way of finding out if the clutch is shot?

Check the clutch oil first and then go the clutch plate and if possible check the gear oil and also the clutch

Acura integra loss of power please help

I think that's normal. Just make sure the clutch is adjusted right. An inch or less free play at the pedal is usually what's called for.

There is no "break in" for the clutch-goes right to work as it's supposed to. What does your speedometer say?

86 acura legend manual transmission shifting problems

so the problem is that you cannot get it into gear from a stop
(grinds trying to force into gear) . if you have a clutch pedal, what I mean is that clutch pedal has pressure behind it,moves up and down by itself, then its a clutch assy needs replaced.clutch disc/pressure plate/release bearing. if there is no pedal, falls to floor, its either clutch slave or clutch master failure issue(lost all fluid). but nothing points at needing a transmission,it should be fine

Clutch pedal is to high

There may be an adjustment bolt, called a stopper bolt, at top of pedal. Screw it out and pedal height will change.
Good luck.

How do you replace a throw out bearing on a 88 integra ls?

You must remove the transmission from the vehicle. The clutch release bearing (throwout bearing) rides on the input shaft of the transmission, and is the only part of the clutch kit that remains attached to the transmission upon removal.

Make certain you reattach the bearing retainer mechanism to the bearing fork, so that the bearing doesn't ride on the face of the pressure plate while you're not using the clutch pedal.

Engine speed hunts on idle. Auto trans slow shift.

The fast idle valve is inside the throttle body. Sometimes it backs out and needs turned back in (it's threaded). This will cause the loping idle.

Get transmission filter changed with new fluid. Honda does not recommend transmission flushing.
