If smoke comming from tail pipe then the valve seals r leaking if from under the hood then the valve pan seals r leaking on to the exost manafold and thebpil is then burrning off if tail pipe then it means motor work if under the hood then just replace the gaskets for the valve pans and the leaking/smoking should stop

SOURCE: coolant leak

More than likely it is coming from the intake manifold. You can use a pressure tester that hooks to the radiator and use a flashlight and mirror to get a better look at where it is coming from.

SOURCE: blue smoke from tail pipe 98 neon no leaks i can see

piston rings or valve stem seals. Both will cause excessive oil consumption and smoking. Worst case scenario: head gasket/head/block issues.

I have a polo classic 1.6 2002 model. Its smoking after idling for a while. On a start up it doesn't.

It depends on the type of smoke flowing from the exhaust. It will be either burnt oil smoke or burnt coolant smoke which is lighter in colour.

Check to see if you are losing radiator coolant with no sign of any external fluid leak. If so and you have light coloured smoke from the exhaust you probably have a coolant leak into a combustion chamber(s) by way of a blown head gasket or a crack in the cylinder head. This can be checked by a leak down test on each cylinder (A prior check of compression will show if you have any compression leakage on any cylinder but not the leak source).

I have a 1995 GMC sierra truck smoke when it stop at red light.

It probably smokes all the time , when moving you don't notice it > What color smoke ? White - coolant is getting in to the combustion camber , head gasket , intake manifold . Blue - oil is being burnt - rings , valve seals , Black - running rich , leaking fuel injectors . leaking fuel pressure regulator . Smokes from were , exhaust ? Engine bay etc....

What could cause blue smoke from exhaust?

blue smoke is burning oil
I gather that you let the engine idle and when you give it rpms that there is a cloud of blue smoke
if that is the case it indicates that the valve stem seals are hard /failed and when the engine is at idle ( 15" mercury vacuum in manifold) the oil around the valves is sucked past the stem seals and into the combustion chamber
AS you have restricted use of the machine (every 3 weeks ) it is not a great problem as when you are on the road it is not happening (Only at idle )
It is repairable without removing the head if you find an accredited service shop that has experience in the procedure.

1985 Ford F150 302,5.0 Smoking running Rich and idling high and low

first of all u need to determine what color of smoke it is and is it coming out of the exhaust pipe. black smoke means excessive gas burning ...blue smoke means burning oil ...white smoke if seen in warm weather conditions means coolant leak into cylinder heads... but as running rich and high low idle might have a vacuum leak or carburetor need new base gasket or rebuilt ... good luck

Loses qt of oil per week. No leak shows underneath car and does not smoke

It can easily burn that much in a 100 miles without seeing any smoke.
If you check the spark plugs you may find evidence.
It can also leak while the engine is running and not when it is off. Most Northstar engines leak to some degree.

It sounds like you may need valve seals.
The oil sits in the head after the engine is cut off and leaks around the seals into the cylinder.
When you start the engine it burns the oil and sends the smoke out of the tailpipes.
It does not hurt anything much if it is not to bad.
