2001 Ford ex xplorer sport trac. Transmission is in drive even when in park, reverse, neutral or drive

Is it a floor shift or column? The simplest explanation would be that the lever from the shifter is not connected to the transmission. If it is shifted with a cable from the shifter going to the transmission make sure the cable is still attached to the transmission and shifter. You need to get under the vehicle and have someone operate the shifter while you inspect it and make sure it is moving the lever on the transmission. It is apparent the transmission is stuck in drive mode and the lever or cable changing modes is not connected either at the shifter or transmission.

My chevy trailblazer wont shift from park to drive.

chances are the shift cable is broke at the transmission, I drilled the rod out of the shift lever and ran a shoulder bolt through the shift lever and cable end and finished up with a lock nut.

My transmission quit responding to all gears but park while I was driving down the road. Is it my transmission or just the cable shifter?

Is the shifter loose? Is it tight as usuall? Shift linkage will rub along the side of your transmission, usually drivers side. I'd inspect the linkage Bracket and make sure te cable is not moving around. Sometimes clips break that keep them on there. If it's not an obvious issue with the linkage I'd call a local tranny shop n ask them or some advise over the phone that you could troupe shoot yourself before having to take it in.

In my opinion transmissions are the mist difficult part of the car to diagnose, especially for the average Joe.

2002 celica gt-s =transmission won't do anything. The shift lever on the tranny moves but the tranny doesn't do respond. it makes no noise.

I'd say it is a linkage problem. First get under the car and look to see if the linkage arm from the shifter is still attached. If it is and the other linkage arms on the transmissionare are still attached then you will need to check the shifter itself.

Automatic transmission does not respond

There are 3 things to consider on a no shift scenario 1 Check for Transmission fluid make sure there is enough. 2nd Check transmission linkage from shifter to transmission this is a 2 person job. Having 1 person in the car and the second outside in front of the car looking in the engine compartment directly in front of the driver, (BE CAREFUL) have person 1 move shifter from park to neutral this is checking to see the linkage is intact and working properly, the linkage under the hood of the car should be located directly to the right of the engine on the very top you should see movement. if no change cable.#3 lastly If the above is still not the answer you most likely have a hydraulic pump gone, this is the pump that supplies pressure to the transmission without this u will get nothing, in order to get to this u must remove the transmission from car. it is behind torque converter.U can test for pressure with the right equipment....Good Luck hope i could help.

Transmission wont shift, Transmission does not respond to shifter

Hello, hope I can help you. First off, you need to check the fluid level. Start the car, idling in park, and remove the transmission dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert it, and remove again, and check the level. If it is low, add some to correct the level. Once you have the level corrected, see if you have engagement. If so, hopefully you're all set, if not, at this point, you have some type of internal failure, and will most likely be looking at an overhaul, or replacing the transmission.

Shifting lever doesnt want to come out of park

This is a problem that occurs in many Honda's. Inside the shifter is a cable that is connected to the button to release the shift lock so you can shift into a gear. This cable become frayed and can eventually brake, which makes it hard to shift. The only solution is to replace the shifter either with a new OEM from Honda (very expensive) or get a good used one from your local recycle yard.
