1992 Camry hard start, and when accelerating wants to stall

Hi I have a 1992 Camry 2.2L 4 cyl. (I cant post it as anything else but a V6 for some reason) I was driving the other day (having no problems what-so-ever) and all of a sudden, the car lost all acceleration...felt like the engine was dragging and RPM dropped almost to zero..when I let off the accelerator RPM would return to normal and when I resumed acceleration it would be fine for another 15mph then do the same thing...it was almost like the parking brake was on (but it WASN'T, ha I'm not an old lady who is forgetful) So I parked it and the next day I tried to start it and it would not. So I replaced the plugs, wires, cap and rotor. I ohmed out the ignition coil and pick up coil, both checked out, same with ignition module. Fuel injectors are pulsing, and it is getting fuel... I checked the air filter and fuel pump and filter are fairly new. after replacing all of that I got it running again...but it does the same thing when accelerating...then after I park it for awhile it doesnt want to start again. Timing is correct, but it does seem to have a intermitten misfire while idling...the exhaust system is new so its unlikely a clogged cat...the transmission is good..I've tried everything and consulted a few master technicians and they have no other ideas...besides a TPS sensor I dont know...please help me before I set this car on fire

Thanks for helping, tomorrow Im going to clean the MAF sensor and EGR valve etc, then replace the fuel filter..hopefully that'll work, but if not I'll hook up a fuel pressure gauge to see if that could be a problem...someone suggested that it could be the fuel pressure regulator? I'll let you know what happens..thanks again!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention...I just passed NJ inspection last week...the HC level was 97ppm...and 100ppm is the most a vehicle can produce...I guess I can attribute that to the misfire and or lean mixture...but who knows if that could be the last piece of the puzzle!

i would STRONGLY advise that you DONT spray ANY MAF sensor with carb. cleaner....i have replaced lots of good sensors, that got ruined by chlorinated, pressurized, residue sprays, first spray with light commpressed air (AEROSAL).. ps....try pulling vacuum line off of fuel press. regulator and check for sighs of fuel in hose (very common) , would indicate bad regulator..test regulator as needed...good luck

First give a good clean up to the MAF MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR , with carburator cleaner again if you did not do that. then change thr TPS,   then look inside the distributor and see if it is dirty . change fuel filter , you might have picked up a bad batch of fuel.did you clean the egr carbon build up in throttle body Vitally

You need to check fuel pressure. It can be getting fuel but not enough. The misfire sounds like a lean condition from lack of fuel

How do i replace a vacuum switching valve on a 1992 toyota camry 2.2L engine

Your post says it is a v6 but you say a 2.2 4 cyl in your question. VSV is located near the rear of the valve cover on the front of the engine.

Oil leaking from toyota camry 1992, 1994 model

You don't say what engine it has. The 4-cyl was a better than the V6 for oil leaks.

The V6 had oil leaks from

-rear bank cam cover gasket

-distributor o-ring seal

-oil filter bracket o-ring seal

-crankshaft nose oil seal (less common)

-rear main bearing oil seal (expensive, just leave it)

The 4 cyl leaked oil from

-distributor o-ring seal

-camshaft cover gasket

-rear main bearing seal (expensive, leave it)

1992 toyota camry v6 le boggs down on acceleration

It sounds like you may have a vacuum leak. Your car should normally idle at about 700-750 RPM. You said that yours was at about 1000-1500, that is waaay to high. If you have a leak somewhere in the system the car will draw in extra air and it will want to idle much higher and will also be very erratic and hard to drive.

I recently bought a 1992 model toyota camry SV21 and 3S-FE engine, it starts well exept that when you try to accelerate, the engine will miss and would like to stall, so just to bring it home I rev it high...

the fuel must be adjusted ,it loses the torque, when press the accelerator ,the engine need more torque when moving the car on 1st gear, compare on the motorway, check for the fuel man ,this will affect the engine on long period
