Question about 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix

2000 Pontiac Gran Prix Auto Trans 3500 rpms at 65 hwy driving

Just recently received my car back and noticed that it doesn't seem to be shifting into 4th gear instead the rpms continue to climb after 50 mph and stay around 3400 rpms when set on cruise at nearly 70. Would like to figure out the problem and take care of it before it blows.

You can find them in a junk yard, or online, at multiple websites. Amazon.com, eBay.com, or most anything like that. Or your local craigslist postings, under car/auto parts for sale.

2000 pontiac grand prix rpms running 3 while doing 55

You have Transmission Issues that need to
be diagnosed

It most likey isn't going into converter lock-up

Could be a brake switch, torque converter solenoid
or any number of things

Shouldn't use it at all with any trans problem or
noticable increase in RPM

2000 Gran Prix, 180,000 miles, not shifting into overdrive, no slipping of transmission about 3400 rpm at 65mph, can you drive it in the 3rd gear ?

You can till you burn up the transmission. The car not going to 4th could be your in the limp mode, there is something wrong with the engine or transmission and the ECM has put the car in limp mode. If there is a Auto Zone around your area, have the car scanned for DTC codes causing your ECM to run under limp mode. Keep an eye on your transmission fluid, if it started to burn ( dark Burgundy color ) service the transmission and hope you did not burn too much of your clutch in your clutch pack. Keep me posted, and good luck be glad to help.

Vw automatic trans won't shift

The 01M and 09A automatic transmissions do not have a dipstick and procedure requires measuring and maintaining a specified ATF temperature (which is neither cold or hot, but in between) during the ATF level checking. Special Volkswagen tools are required for this operation and it is therefore recommended that ATF level checking on 01M/09A transmissions be left to an authorized VW dealer.

How do replace heater core in 2002 Pontiac Gran Prix

i do believe you have to take the passengers side dash apart behind the glove compartment. go to autozone and get a manual or go to the library and check the chiltons manual. this is not an easy job. how bad is the leak? if its not bad these heater cores are made of all aluminum. i would buy a bottle of that radiator additive and see if that takes care of the problem first. it only cost about 5 bucks a bottle and it may permanantly fix your problem.
