1995 ford f-150 xl 4x4 5.0 automatic transmission. After running the truck for and hour on the freeway when you shut the engine off and then try to start it it wont start but barely turns it overhad yhad all the electrical components checked and there is no problem with the starter, altenator, new yellow top battery, all checked out ok. If you let the engine cool down enough she will start up. Any suggestions greatly appreciated

It is the starter. when it gets hot it is weak. if you tested it when cold it would seem fine. I will bet money on it.

SOURCE: ford f-150 will crank but not start

I had the same problem but I did two fixes for it (1) when I bought the truck several years ago the duel tank switch was pushed in but i never fixed it and just would switch tanks with the switch pushed into the dash. after awhile it acted like it didn't know what tank to draw from point is i finally replaced the switch and it ran, but still ran rough, (2) on the left side of the motor their is an EGR valve (it was green colored vacum hose) I replaced that vacum hose and now it runs great.

Was it the fuel pump? If not I would consider the charging system ie) battery, alternator or both.

You can use regular automatic transmission fluid in the 5-speed manuals. I would prefer using MERCON ATFif i was in your place.

Check your spark plugs and wires for short to ground. Under load the spark will go to the least resistance to ground.

Will not drop down from fast idle when first started

It sounds like an automatic choke system. Let it warm up for 5 minutes and then give it gas up to 2000rpm and release.
