Quit running will not turn over

Driving down the road no check engine light but just quit running.will not turn over.13 volts in the batt.checked all fuses

Run fault codes and check for cam/crank angle position sensor fault. Check that the cam shaft is turning over (broken cam belt) Check operation of the immobiliser and check that the fuel pump is still working.

that fuse feeds power to fuel pump relay circuit that feeds pump could be defective pump,or damaged circuit wires that shorts out! and not a good idea to put higher fuse in circuit could cause more damage to circuit! but i know when your stuck, u do what it takes,so inspect circuit related to fuse,

You'll need to find out what code you have. There are lots of differant things that can cause a check engine light or a truck to run poorly.
For what it's worth sounds like a vaccume leak, maybe the egr. But you need to find out what the code if first!

SOURCE: How do you check voltage on the fuel pump on a

Hello Dennis.
When you are checking fuel pump voltage on your pickup when you turn on the key the voltage is only applied to the pump for a couple of seconds unless you go to cranking position.
There are 4 wires leading to the fuel pump on your truck. The gray wire is the 12 volt positive power feed to the fuel pump and the black provides the ground. The orange and purple wires are your fuel gauge wires.
The relay for the fuel pump is in your under hood fuse panel and I believe is marked on the underside of the fuse panel cover. It should click on and off again quickly when you turn the key to "on". Having a helper to cycle the key would be handy while you put your finger on the relay and listen to it. Just because it clicks still doesn't mean it's functional but relay failure on these models is somewhat rare.
I would start by checking for power at the fuel pump harness.
Fuel pump issues are quite common on these model year trucks.

as seems to occour when using an electrical component i'd check the alternator charge rate, should be between 13-14 volts any lower and not charging enough to run vehicle , if ok check for battery condition as may not be holding charge , hope this helps

First I had to keep getting jumps, so I had a altenatior put on bought a new battery while driving it home I lost all power, lights, horn, and the car died in the middle of the road? what's wrong


check your batt voltage
to see if your battery still good should be 12.6 volts no less than 12.4 volts you may have a short some were a some serious resistance in your cables when your car is running check your voltage at the alternator should be around 14.6 or higher then check your voltage at the batt while the car is still running should be the same if you have a really big difference then your battery cables have a lot of resistance /corrosion

Lights flicker and batt has been going dead


alternator fault check with a meter but would say the bushes inside have worn out. cheaper to replace the hole unit. put meter on battery with out engine running nothing on. should be a round 12.05 volts. then test again with engine running no lights should be around 13-14 volts fairly steady if it is jumping all over the place then it is defo the altinator. .

if they are both fine then the conection could be bad. or there is a fuesable link in the wire from batt to alt. test the alt power wire while running on car for power over 13 volts. if there is power on the power lead then your fuesable link is blown. just replace the alt wire to the batt and you will be on the road

Check the voltage coming out of the alternator and if its less than 13 volts or more than 15 volts then replace the altrnator.

It sounds like you have a charging problem-alternator is not recharging batt when drive, batt will only go so far before it runs out then you get your symtoms. you would need a volt meter to double check this. Fully charged batt will be about 12.7volts once car is started and running you should see about 13.8 to 14.2 volts at batt terminals if alt. is chariging batt. the other item that can cause this is the volatge regulator that controls alt. which are sometimes built-in alternator and sometimes they are external to alternator. and of course make sure your belt is turning alternator to allow it to work. One other small note if you do the engine running test-somtimes- if your car idles low(600 or 700 rpm) you need to give a little throttle (1000-1200rpm) to make sure alternator is turning fast enough for output test.

Battery not charging. had alt tested and it checked out. batt is brand new only a few hours old. was driving and tranny started shifting up and down, lights on gauges went out, no tail lights. connections...


check the big wire that goes to the fuse box under the hood. there is one that goes from the batery across the radiator shroud. then them. also check the ground from the engine block to the firewall its flat with no coating.

Car wont except charge new batt. and alt.it just dies after 1 min. Batt light remains lit


Suggest that you go to Harbor Freight and purchase a 4 dollar volt meter and check the voltage across the battery terminals without the engine running and with the engine running. A charged battery will read about 13 volts, a battery connected to a running engine will read between 13.9 and 14.2 volts.

If you read less than either, you have a burned fuse wire (that is a piece of wire that acts as a fuse). They are a bad design item and VERY hard to find - but will be the cause - or you have a bad lead/connection at the alternator.....

sounds like a battery ground,check chassis ground strap coming from - batt terminal to the body. Also the one bellhousing bolt in front of engine down by the starter has ground for sensors.
Check there ,make sure it's tight.

14.6 means your voltage regulator or diode is suspect Despite having new alternator .Ive cross refrenced your smptoms in the haynes workshop manual and alternator is your only end answer.The haynes test is to start vehicle with multi meter connected across the battery terminals,increase the engine speed until the reading remains steady should be approximately 12 to 13v and no more than 14v.switch on as many accessories as possible(headlights heater blower radio etc)check that the alternator maintains the regulated voltage at around 13 to 14v.If the regulated voltage is not as stated then alternator is to be repaired/replaced.Good luck with it and a happy new year.
