2002 jeep liberty code p171

I have a jeep liberty with a code p171 coming up i changed the plugs, o2 sensor ,the intake gaskets ,tps sensor . now im lost any ideas ????

    U SHOULD KNOW BY NOW THAT THIS NEEDS TO GO TO THE DEALER FOR PROPER TESTING, QUIT GUESSING.

Looked up your code and it says that your bank 1 sensor 1, means you have more than 1 sensor, this one is for your fuel, says your mixture is lean, might need a tune up..or the sensor is bad..hope this helps....shia

Code is "Oxygen sensor input voltage maintained above normal operating range"

Very likely it's the Lambda sensor on the eshaust playing up. Check connections and get it tested.

Can give up with faulty fuel from some pumps.

Check the wires at the back of the harness plug for any breaks. Some times they break inside the coating, so pull on them. If they stretch, it broke.

I have a 2002 jeep liberty with 145,000 miles. I change my oil a month ago and check the oil today and notice i was a half qt. low. I notice oil building up around the intake manifold (left side). I have...


THis could be bad gasket or just bad seals. I would recommend to have the engine washed on your local garage or if you can do it on your own the better. Once cleaned you should be able to identify the source of the oil. Usually bad gaskets would also cause you to burn oil and cause smoke.

I have a 2002 cadillac dhs my service engine light came on. got codes P0174 and P171 could you tell me what they mean

System to lean means that a fuel injector or injectors may be plugged up, or the oxygen sensor is sensing too lean of a condition.

How many miles do you have on this engine?
Have the O2 sensors ever been changed?

When was the last time you had a tune up?

Fouls 3 spark plugs on drivers side, rough idle new plugs 3 times ,new converter and o2 on drivers side. new tp sensor new MAP, new IAC what causes this


I will guess. Give me a lot of leeway here

Only me,BUT,if I got 3 plugs fouled twice,I would halt everything.

There would be no new converter,O2 Sensor,that was damaged, as a result of your issues,UNTIL, I solved the cause of their failure.

The TPS,MAP and IAC ,ONLY get replaced when I,just me again, have used a VOM or Oscilloscope to test,AND, the testing proved they were bad.

So, I think, a dry and wet cylinder compression test,a cylinder leak down test, a coolant pressure test,a check for combustibles in coolant,and even an exhaust gas reading,just to start a list of things to do,would be necessary, to tell you why the plugs are fouling.

If I went the wrong way,on oil or coolant fouling,just maybe a bad fuel pressure regulator,BUT only 3 plugs,THAT'S THE KEY

You got a bad head gasket or intake gasket
The TPS,MAP and IAC were replaced ,due to a guess and not testing.
If this was a dealer,they installed a converter and never attempted to solve the cause of failure. (Overheating,Rich Fuel Mixture or Coolant Contamination)

Can't tell you exactly what is wrong but the one thing you said is of concern...Map sensor should not be full of oil. If it is, I'd want to know why. In finding the reason for that, you may also find the reason why you are having a problem.
Jeep uses two kinds of engine crank venting. you either have a pcv valve or an orifice controlled system. If either are obstructed it can overpressure the crankcase and cause all kinds of problems.
Years of experience tells me this isn't something I can guess at and be 100% sure I have the right answer but based on what you said, I'd look there first!

Bank 1 is the frt side exhaust manifold (did they say bank 1 sensor 1?),you can start by replacing that sensor,i would check the intake for leaks ,the gm 6cly. are known for bad intake gaskets,you will see oil coming out form the frt or rear of the intake,also check your atifreeze overflow bottle for bronwish sludge,which means that the oil is mixing with the antifreeze.A leaking intake could cause that lean condition.

was the check engin light on at anytime for an o2 sensor code if so you need a new cat(catalytic converter) flash update i think was a way for a mechanic to get money from you unless it was warranty covered if your o2 was malfunctioning your car was mostlikely running rich which will plug up or burn out a cat
