Question about Infiniti J30
My j30 won't shift gears. Starts in 2nd gear and stays there. Never shifts down to first or up to 3rd or 4th. The battery was disconnected and the a few sensors were disconnected(knock and oxygen and one that is located beside the oil filter if you are under the car looking up). The car had to be jumped to get it to start again (which was a couple days after the sensors and battery were reconnected). Voltage to the battery was low, but after the car was started, the alternator light flashed rapidly 4-5 times and then went off. The reason the sensors were disconnected was to clean off oil and sludge that had built up on the engine and component parts. What could be wrong????
When the car was jump started, you may have caused a voltage surge that affected the on-board computer module; and/or the computer module for the transmission.
Another possibility, once you disconnected your battery, you may have disrupted the on-board memory codes- such as the transmission's adaptive settings- so you may have to bring the car to the dealer repair shop or a transmission shop. Even if you take it to a local auto repairman, make sure he/she is an ASE certified mechanic.

Check transmission fluid. If that is full, try changing the fuel filter. It could be starving for gas, and trying to shift but can't. It could also be the speed sensor, or shift solenoid.

I have a s40 1.9d / 2000 plate,
In the last month or so the car loses revs when changing up to 3rd and 4th gear, I can only get 50 mph max in 3rd gear 80mp in 4th.
The car has just clocked 185,000 miles
Its a great car but a pai at the moment, I've had a service including fuel fillter change added fuel cleaners to the deilsel all to no avail
