Question about 1996 Cadillac DeVille

1 Answer

Air won't come out of vents, but will from defrost and floor.

If I want defrost on, it will work, the floor works too. The front vents do not work. If it's a vacuum where can it be found? Thanks. 96 Seville by the way.

Well thats no good. Maybe you can help me with this one...

Ok, this happens it seems after the car has been running for a little bit, maybe ten or so miles down the road..Driving and I give it some gas and it only seems to slow down,(doesn't die) it doesn't rev up. Almost like a governor, I only slow down. The car doesn't seem to run hot, or no sulfur smell. It fires right up, every time. Put a new fuel filter in there hoping the problem would be as simple as that, but, nope.

Well, I did, I put a new intake in there, reset it, haven't seen a light since. I'm hearing all sorts of things with this issue...faulty fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, catalytic converter...where does a guy start? Thanks.

No, I dont have a code reader.

As far as the air not coming from vents, it comes out of defrost no matter what I change it to, that means I dont have a vacuum problem...I just need the climate control module? Right? Thanks again.

If it switches function even only a few then the problem is not the vacuum source (if u had no vacuum it would default to defrost mode) the problem is the dash control head vacuum mode control switch, i don't think u can just replace the switch, u have to buy the whole climate control module.

The symptom u are describing may be a defective MAF (Mass Airflow) sensor, do u have a check engine light? the MAF will not usually set the check light.

AC is only blowing through the defrost vents in the dashboard?

I think your problem is the head unit that selects where the air comes out ie. Face, floor, defrost, or hi-level face and floor. If that's not working then it will not let you switch location that you want the air to come out.

No heat or defrost in my 2000 mercury sable

If you are referring to the air won't blow through the defrost vents or on the floor, you may have a stuck or broken blend door actuator. This part diverts air through the different settings: defrost, vent, floor etc. If you aren't getting warm or hot air regardless of the settings, you may either be low on coolant or have a bad thermostat.

What is a blender/ it is suposed to a part of the heater area

The "blender" would refer to the blend actuators that change the flow of air from floor to vent to defrost or combinations. Properly working blend doors will allow you to direct air to the dash vents, the floor, the defroster, the floor and defroster or the floor and dash vents. If it is not working the heater will still work but you will hae no control oer where the air flows.

Yes it is cable operated and something is probably disconnected. Remove your glove box so you can get a better look at whats going on.

Defroster & floor blowers don't work but front facing vents do

There are what they call mode door's these days they have a electrical motor that turnes the door to different posistions...sounds like yours is become broken. It would depend on your expertise in the ac & heating system area to replace the part. Sometimes easy and most of the times the dash has to be removed.
