You seem to be running RICH ,that's the white smoke. It sounds like you may have a bad MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR. Is the check engine light on? Get some one with a scanner to check the code or codes. GOOD LUCK FIEND.

SOURCE: Mazda Tribute 2002 engine cuts out randomly

I had a Mazda 626 with a similar problem, the car seemed to 'shut down' with no warning, even at highway speeds, as if I just turned the ignition key to 'Off'; After trying to fix it unsuccessfully by replacing several electrical parts, the problem was found to be a defective ignition switch, it was replaced and the problem went away.

SOURCE: 2001 Mazda Tribute V6 engine miss

Take the vehicle to Auto Zone or another parts store that will read the engine fault code from the ECM for you. Most will do it for free. Depending on how long it has been since you replaced the plugs and wires on your vehicle you may have a bad spark plug or plug wire that is causing the problem. Easy enough to fix if you don't have to pull the air intake assembly to change the back 3 plugs. If you do have to pull this you should get a chiltons repair manual so you ahve instructions on how to remove and replace the intake assembly.

Not the fuel filter. What color smoke? Black = rich mixture= check coolant temp sensor. Blue = oil burning=bad PCV system or worn engine. White = coolant burning=possible head gasket leak.

Engine running bad at idle

There are several causes for this, including the above.
Check the spark plugs and coils/wires. Lose or worn parts can cause this. If the spark plugs have thick black residue, you have an oil leak. A flat black powdery residue is too much air. A thick crusty white/yellowish residue would be a coolant leak.
If it is blowing blue or white smoke when running, the you have an oil (blue) coolant (white) leak that needs to be fixed. Normal smoke is grayish in color.
Check all the vacuum lines as a leak may be the problem.

Mk4 golf gt tdi 115 (2000) over revving when driving

it could be the sensor but its usually dead spots, white smoke that could be a problem. that could be the head gasket over pressured, you can clean the sensor but i would also check the water and the oil as something major happened, the sensor is on the intake when you move the throttle it moves a disc round the lower the resistance the faster the engine goes. if no resistance it wont start engine or if does it will just cut out as soon as the accelerator is pressed the engine will just cut out. anyway check that out you can clean it by removing it from the intake but mark its position were it is as you need to put it back in the same place. when its removed you will see a little hole spray some switch cleaner in the hole and shake the unit about and turning the switch by hand or screw driver do this a few times and then leave it to drain out of the hole and to dry before refitting. make sure you put the part back to the same position as it was before and fit to intake again.
