Without hearing it, it is hard to tell. But, I would first be looking at the idler pulley bearing, they have been known to fail; and make noise. Remove the idler pulley, and spin it manually. If it feels rough, and makes any noise, it is bad.

You'll need to investigate your cars electronics. This could lye at the coil or perhaps in a sensor. Also no sprark at plugs or at coil? If you have it at the coil but none at the plugs your rotor and distributor need replacement. If not the case I'd pick-up a manual , say Chiton's, on your car which will assist you on how to check your electronics and narrow down to where the problem lyes.
