Fuse blowing on contact

On my fuse panel a 10 fuse blows on contact, possibly in the 14th or 19th cavity. This controls my stereo, interior lights, door locks, and trunk release button. What can I do?

Find the short circuit, to do this disconnect the systems the fuse supplies power to one at a time until u isolate the one that is shorted to ground, then it is matter of checking the wiring harness until u find the damaged wiring.

For an interior light to blow fuses you have a dead short in the wire to the bulb or possiblely the wrong bulb. Pull the bulb and see if the fuse still blows.

Hello
Do you have lighted visor vanity mirrors? If so disconnect them both and recheck the short. I have found the hot wire rubs through due to lowering the visor, this shorts out the interior light circuit. Never use a higher amperage fuse than what came out, you risk starting a electrical fire, have seen this happen 1st hand.

Where is the fuse for the break lights located in the 1997 cherokee

If its the 2.5TD it is located in the interior kick panel fuse panel. Location is cavity No 25,15amp,light blue in colour. It controls ABS,climate controls, cooling fan and brake switch. If it is the fuse for the high mounted brake light, the fuse is in the engine compartment in the electrical power distribution centre. Cavity No15. 15amp,blue in colour.

This could be a component or a wiring fault. It is easier to check the components so:-

1)Remove lamp and insert new fuse.

If fuse goes again, disconnect stereo, replace lamp and fuse.

If fuse does not blow the dump stereo.

If fuse goes again, trace the wiring and

If it still blows, then the stereo is likely to be faulty

do you have an aftermarket stereo? if you do, unplug it and see how long the fuses last. check your lighter and make sure there are no foreing object in there that can cause a short. when you replace the fuses, take notice of which action causes the fuses to blow... for example, door lock unlock, are they still ok, door lock, lock..check again, mirror left, still ok, so forth and so on. take it one at a time and see which action causes them to blow. when they blow do it again to see if the same action that caused them to blow the first time did it again, then trace those wires. you probably have a bad relay somewhere.

Fuse blowing on interior light/ remote

Was the bulb the same size and watt as the one you removed? Did you possibly cause a short in the fixture. I do not recomend using a larger fuse due to possible wiring dammage (risk of fire). Check the bulb for size and wattage/voltage check the holder to make sure it is not grounding out. Carefully check each step 2x.
