SOURCE: change brake light on 1996 oldsmobile

This is a odd circumstance for many people including myself. The 2 options are to
1) Unscrew the srews holding the cover and replace the bulb or
2) Pry the light out with a screwdriver and then replace the bulb

These are the only 2 solutions I have to offer you.. Of course #2 can result in esxcessive force but is in many cases nescessary. Be careful though... big money is invested in the replacement of these lights as they can break. Good luck.

SOURCE: How do I replace the

High-Mount Brake Light NOTE: Depending upon the vehicle, the center high-mount brake light may be accessed from outside the vehicle, through the trunk, or through the passenger compartment.

  1. Remove the center high-mount bracket light lens retaining screws.
  2. Remove the lens in order to get to the bulbs.
  3. Carefully pull the bulb away from its retaining clip contacts.
  4. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Before installing the lens, make sure the brake light operates properly by having an assistant depress the brake pedal.
I'll post the pics here in a sec.

SOURCE: 1996 Oldsmobile 88, where is the flasher unit so I can replace

I believe it is under the glove box door between it and the ashtray. You'll have to remove the panel under the dash (no big deal) and it is in a metal clip attached to the dash panel. Good Luck

Third brake light stays on; brakelights very dim; radio, clock, flasher emblem on dash blink when turn signals are used; signals flash fast when brake pedal is applied.

Sounds like you have a short somewhere in the brake circuit. May be between the brakes and the blinkers in the brake lights.

How to replace the brake light bulbs?

Open the trunk, remove the carpet-like covering on the quarter panels, and look for wires leading to the bulb sockets and the bulb itself.

The third brake light will take disassembly of the lense with a screwdriver.

Replace bulbs with the same type, as stamped in black ink on the base of the bulb.

Oldsmobile 1998 88. "ANTI-LOCK" and "TRACTION OFF" lights

There is only one thought or answer.

Since 1980, whenever you get a check light on, you go to a repair shop. They check the codes, that set the light, and use that as a starting point, to diagnose and repair your issues.

I just had the brakes redone on our 1998 olds 88 new pads new rotors and when we got it back the abs light and the traction off light stay on but not all the time and just this morning the brakes went out...

Take it back! The ABS lights, etc could just be they forgot to connect one of the wheel speed sensors, but the brakes going out completely means they screwed something up. If they are not working, have it towed back and repaired correctly!

1998 Olds 88, Replaced all the brake lines (because of corosion) I took care to get lines back on anti-lock unit in same position as origonal. Brake light on dash did go out but the ABS and Traction...

you probably push air into the ABS unit when getting your lines replace but the Traction Control light might be on because the system might use the wheel speed sensor on the ABS unit to enable the Traction Control.......

My 1998 Olds 88 has been stalling and running rough.

Check and clean the IAC valve. Idle Control Valve. Use brake cleaner or carburater cleaner . Remove the duct work from the air filter assembly. It is located just inside . Run the engine at 1200 rpms and spray the valve. The valve can also be removed and cleaned.
