Cutting off the catalytic converter and keeping it

by doing this you are breaking a federal law as no emission system can be removed or deactivated. you don`t say why your thinking about doing this. the converters do not cause any restriction in the exhaust to speak of.

Pontiac 3.1 and 3.8 haveing problems with the catalytic converters/I hear that pontiac is replaceing them for free even after warenty exp true or not

If there is a recall for the converter on your car, they will replace it free. I would call your local dealer, with your VIN # and they can tell you.

Catalyic converter

call the dealer and have them run your VIN, if there is a recall that will show up on the print out. There is no other way to be sure, all recalls go by Vehicle ID numbers.

2002 grand prix

I just had the same problem. Check the catalytic converter. It took me forever to get over 30 or 40. Drove everyone in the road nuts. They initially thought it was the transmission. Not so, clogged catalytic converter. I got it tuned up and the engine runs fine. Wish I could sasy that about everything else on this lemon!
