What can cause the both brake lights to fail in the trunk lid of 2018 Ford Taurus Limited AWD?

Hi, I take it that you have already checked the fuse, could be the brack light switch wich is by the brake pedle , but what I would check as it does seem to be a problem on alot of cars these days, where the wireing goes from the boot into the trunk lid there is a rubber boot, inside where the boot is opend and closed the wires inside the rubber boot brake,so I would check there first, make sure you check eaach wire verry carefully, hope this was some help all the best.

Just recently my licence plate light and exterior trunk lights stopped working. I thought it was simply two burnt out licence plate lights when I discovered the rest didn't work either. I found all this...

There is a wiring harness that connects all those lights on the trunk lid to the system. There usually is a connection to take the trunk lid off. IT is near the hinge support legs that lead from the lid to the hinges under the rear deck of the passenger compartment. Check that connection to be sure that it is not loose or damaged. IF it is not loose or damaged then the ground connection through the chassis parts that mount the trunk lid are suspect or there is a broken wire in the harness.

The two tailights in the trunk of my 2005 honda civic si do not work. the bulbs and fuse are ok. is this a civic problem

Do the lights on the trunk operate when the parking lights are on, but do not light up when you apply the brakes? If so, this is normal. Only the outer red lights are brake & parking combination lights. The ones adjacent to the reverse lights on the trunk lid are parking lights only.

If the red lights in the trunk lid are not working at all, check the red/yellow and black/silver wires where they go from the trunk lid down into the right side of the trunk area. The wiring harness for the parking and reverse lights are contained in a piece of black tubing that is connected to the passenger's side trunk hinge.

I hope this helps! Good luck!

The back up lights and trunk lid lights don't

Check the wire connecting the lights. It often runs up near the hinge and could get separated, damaged or cut. If it is cut or damaged a simple splice should repair it. Also check your fuses.

Backup lights not working

The wires that go to the trunk lid are most likely damaged or disconnected, BUT first read your owners manual to locate where the fuse(s) are for both your trunk release, and back up lamps to make sure they are not blown, replace if necessary, and re-check ... if they are fine ... then check the most likely area (where the wires move) the wires will be on either side of the trunk lid brackets ... follow them look for first a disconnected connector ... and then a broken wire in the harness ... has this vehicle had recent body work or recently toted large items such as golf clubs that may have entangled the wires?

When we bought our car the only tail lights it had was the big one in the center, so i went to buy tail lights but they dont work when you step on the brakes if i remove them the brake light bar on the...

Check the connections going up from the body to the trunk lid. Right at the hinge point, the wires often break internally. If it's the ground wire for the centre light, it's getting it's ground through the tail lights which should cause the problem.
The other thing to check is the switch at the brake pedal. I think it's 2 seperate circuits right from the brake switch.
