Fig. 4: Unfasten the front mounting bolt (1) and remove any necessary shims (2), noting their locations for installation

Before installing the starter motor, make sure the electrical terminals are secure by tightening the nuts next to the cap on the solenoid battery terminal and on the "S" terminal. If these terminals are not tight in the solenoid cap, the cap may be damaged during installation of the electrical connections and cause premature starter failure.

    1. To install:

    2. NOTE: Note the location of any shims so they may be replaced in the same positions upon installation.

    3. Place the starter in position, then install the starter-to-engine bolts and tighten to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
    4. Attach the electrical connectors to the starter, as tagged during removal. Tighten as follows:

    5. Tighten the nut on the solenoid battery terminal to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).
    6. On the SD-250 and SD-255 models, tighten the nut on the "S" terminal to 22 inch lbs. (2.5 Nm).

    7. If removed, install the flywheel inspection cover and secure with the retaining bolts. Tighten the flywheel cover bolts to 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
    8. If removed, install the splash shield.
    9. Carefully lower the vehicle.
    10. Connect the negative battery cable.

Why is there water coming out the throttle body on my 1999 oldsmobile 88 3.8litre

Hi Henry, Im AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair.

Henry, anytime there is water coming from the throttle body, it could be a cracked head, blown head gasket OR the intake manifold gasket is blown at one of the water ports on the manifold. Hope this helps and please visit my auto-repair-website at:

Will my 1999 Oldsmobile 88 run if I disconnect the theft deterrent module. I'm trying to solve a problem with my car, sometimes, shutting off after I first start it up and I'm wondering if I bypass...

No. The theft deterrent module creates a signal that allows the starter to start. Without this signal the car will not start. There is a way to bypass the system and replicate that signal. Look at this link under "permanent fix". This is your best complete fix. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

How to check the theft deterrent relay on a 1999 oldsmobile delta 88 car? starter good, fuse good starter switch good, new battery.

Not starting?
If not, try this. Turn the key to on. Security light blinking? If yes, let it blink for 10 minutes + it will stop blinking. Remove key, then insert key and start car. Computers went bad on these often.

How to install a starter on 97 oldsmobile delta 88

Disconnect the positive Battery cable (You will lose radio and seat settings and wipe computer memory clean) Remove the two 15MM bolts and lower starter down and out of the transmission starter well mark wires to which posts they go then unhook wires do not lose the shims if it has shims, they are important keeps starter from staying engaged after motor starts. Installation is reverse order.
