Sounds like you have a fuel filter thats plugging up, when you start an engine it pressurizes the fuel filter and gunk that has settled gets pushed to the outlet, when you shut it down it depressurizes and the gunk settles again, so everytime you start you get and engine that sometimes runs good or sometimes runs bad until something in the filter lodges in a bad place and then it wont run at all. Im not sure where the fuel filter is, but i can find out if youd like, just let me know.
now another thing is the fuel pump may be beginning to fail, if you have an in tank fuel pump the filter may be there also, some rigs have a small filter with the pump and a larger more efficient one on the link. if you can get under the rig look for two or more 5/15 or 3/8 steel tube lines, usally mounted to the frame, running toward the front of the rig. an external filter will be probably mounted to the frame or in the engine compartment.
the fuel filter is where i would start.
if you can find it, see if you can take it off (engine not running), fuel filters have to go on one way, some have an arrow showing the direction of the fuel travel and some dont, make sure if you put it back on that you do it exactly as it came off.
once you get the fuel filter off, blow thru it in the direction of fuel travel and see if there is any resistance, if good there shouldnt be much, if there is, then replace it.
let me know how you make out and good luck
would apprecitate your feedback if you would please
thanks

Why does my 1986 Pontiac Firebird 2.8 V - 6 FI. run rough on a cold start up. I have to keep tapping the throttle or sometimes it will stall out. After it runs for about 1 to 2 min, it is ok.

NEED TO CHECK ON A SCANNER AND SEE WHAT TEMPATURE THE COMPUTER IS SEEING COLD COMPUTER TEMP SENSOR IS MORE THAN LIKLEY GIVING THE COMPUTER THE WRONG TEMP LETS SAY ITS 40 OUTSIDE AND THE TEMP SENSOR IS TELLING THE COMPUTER THAT IT IS 90 OUTSIDE THEN THE COMPUTER WILL NOT GIVE IT THE FUEL THAT IT NEEDS WHEN ITS THAT COLD

1999 Avenger runs rough. Multiple Misfires

The crankshaft position sensor may be the cause of the problem, or your timing belt skipped a tooth. Hope it's the sensor.

P0355 is a code I am getting on my 96 pontiac grand am. the car starts sometimes and not others. and when it does sstart it is very rough. the engine was just replaced. could the crankshaft position...

the crank sensor will cause intermitent dieing while driving and a no start,,,common gm issue,a p0355 is for the crsankshaft position sensor performance,,or lack there of performance really, lol replace the crank sensor,,it will not cause a rough running though it will either run or not with a bad sensor, you might have 2 issues but i know the p0355 is a bad crank sensor

1999 Firebird runs rough and bucks

Sounds like an O2 sensor at this point (which Firebirds are notorious for) however since you really didnt give us alot more detail than hard to stay running, it could really be several things. I really would eliminate all the multiple guessing and take it to a shop and have a dignostic run on it, it's worth the money to have them tell you in 15 minutes what is wrong verus shelling out money for parts that may not need replacing.
