Question about 1994 Mazda 323

1 Answer

Hello my 323 has started to run badly when you rev the engine there is a slight delay before it picks up, on the motorway it will do 70 no problem but then it feels like you have taken your foot off the gas. the garage said they did not know what it was but it could be a blocked exhaust.(not a mazda garage) I had it changed and paid £160 and its no differentif I were to guess i'd say it was a fuel problem. any ideas would be appreciated its a 1999 1.5 model many thanks p.m.

It sounds as though your head gasket has blowen. take it to a Mazda garage and get a compression and leakage test done. Hold your breath because head gaskets are expensive.

Hello James,

If the engine revs up with no increase in speed, your clutch is slipping. Probably the reason the car was sold!

I would check the spark plugs if you haven't changed them in a while. How many miles are on the bike? Maybe timing belts are getting bad, they are supposed to be replace at or about 60000 miles. If all that checks out. Must not be getting enough fuel. Please rate my answer so my points are awarded.

Lose in momentum or power when motorway driving. Seems to happen between 70-85. No Engine lights or even a hange in the rev counter... Even my girlfriend noticed it when she drove it.

don't ignore simple maintenance issues which can cause minor problems like this. namely a filthy air filter, or restricted fuel filter.

if its carby engine has the idle solenoid stopped working or lost power very common

power=ign. on/run
no power=off/no idle

if your vehicle slows from 70 downto 60 with no change in revs ,then the transmission is slipping .. imust say i dont believe that the speed drops back without the revs dropping down too, i am not calling you a liar ,i`m saying you are not making accurate observations , and without those we are just guessing .
