SOURCE: hooking up wires to battery, solenoid, altornater and starter

hi from the uk if you look at startermotor solenoid you will see two large threaded terminals with nuts? and a third small terminal either spade or round terminal ok? now you should see thet one of large terminals already has a metal or braides strap secured to it and the actual startermotor body? LEAVE THIS ALONE the other large terminal is the one you fit the positive+ lead to from battery also there should be another lead to also attach to same terminal this one supplies power for vehicles electrics etc ensure you secure these with nut ok? now the third small spade or post terminal you will hav a thin wire nearby ?this attaches to thisterminal on its own on solenoid this wire is the one that activates starter when ignition is turned to key start position ok? as for interior light not working ? try again when you complete the above also make sure bulb is ok? ps! before you reconnect starter wires ensure the earth/ground lead is disconnected from battery and when reconnecting battery connect positive lead first then the earth lead or if you try other way you will have sparking from pos lead as you try connecting to battery hope this info is clear instructios for you to follow and wish you luck best wishes from england

Below is your wiring diagram. So does the battery run down or not? At 12 volts, the battery should run down. Here are a couple things to check. The grey 20 gage fusible link from the battery to the alternator runs the stator coil. You could try jumping that with a regular 14 gage wire to see if the voltage will jump up (should be at least 14 volts). The other thing is with dual batteries (which I think you have), if one battery is bad, it could pull down your voltage. Try unhooking the negative terminal on one battery at a time to see if the voltage increases. Let me know if you have any questions.

I own a 2009 Pontiac G5 My car starts fine but the battery light stays on and it stops running within 5 minutes. Could you please give me an idea on what could be wrong and when my car does start, wou

You need a new alternator , Check your amps coming out of the back of your altenator you will find it is not sending 14 volts when its running. The reason it starts and runs for a bit after it sits or charges is that the car is running on the battery if you keep this up you will not only need a new altenator but a new battery

F150 alternator

check the battery with a meter on volts. on a good charge it should be around 12.05v. run engine and test battery again should say around 13-14 volts. if you get 7-8-9 volts then the alternator is not working.. and the alternator is fitted to the fan belt has 2 bolts holding it in place, take the belt off. and remove its bolts and unplug the wire plug and un bolt the thick wire off the copper nut. replace with new or one known to be working.

When you say charging,do you mean amp reading or volt reading?Amps should rise when first started then drop.Volts should stay close to constant. The small wire going to the alternator to power the regulator in the alternator is just switched power. If the volts fall under 14 after ten minutes you may need to try a replacement alternator.

Battery light stays on

Check the voltage at the battery with the engine running. You should see more than 14 volts. If it is less than 13 volts than the alternator is no longer charging. Make sure you check for power on the large wire on the back of the alternator!

Battery Light came on... battery terminal( neg) has acid buildup... cleaned and replaced with new battery... battery light ok at first... one day later... battery light is back on?

is the alternator charging properly ! at battery car off with no accessories on, should be at least 12.6 volts. with car running, at the battery there should be at least 14.2-14.7 volts if alternator is good. but make sure belt for alt. is ok first. if lower then 14 volts change alternator. good-day !

My 1998 Ford Expeditons battery light stays on. What could be the causes?

probably alternator. Voltage should be 14 volts with the engine running and 12 volts off. If not 14, it's not charging.
But clean battery cables at the posts first and check any small wires connected to the positive cable.

Click on the link.
The diagram shows generator with internal voltage regulator and with external voltage regulator, at the moment, I don't know which one you have?
The bat terminal at the generator should be hot even with the key off, is it, use a test light. If no voltage either the fusible link is faulty or the wiring circuit to battery +. You can see fusible links in diagram.
Could be other issues, the generator probably needs excite voltage or it won't work. The excite voltage comes from charge indicator circuit. Does the charge lamp on the dash work?
