Question about 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix

Won't start I had my oil pressure light come on and then the car sputtered and quit. I checked my dip stick and there was no oil. When I turned the key it would give a pitiful chugging like it was trying to turn over. I put in one quart of oil in and turned the key and it then would turn over like normal but wouldn't stay running. I put in 2 more quarts of oil (three total) and then when I turned the key nothing happened. The battery is working fine because I can turn it on and do everything else on the car. when I turn the key everything elctrical turns off and when I let go it turns back on. Anybody have any ideas of what I could possibly do?

    When I put the first quart of oil in and turned the key it turned over and sounded perfect like it was going to start, but it wouldn't stay running. I then had to go and get two more quarts of oil and put two more quarts of oil in and then when I tried to turn the key it makes a click but doesn't turn over at all. I haven't had a chance to look under the hood to see what happens when I turn the key at all as I am the only one around when I am around the car to try to do something with it.

    Um, well I don't know how to say this, but, it doesn't look good. Running it with no oil for even a few minutes causes MASSIVE internal damage.

    I mean I wasn't there to hear it, but the sound that i think you are describing sounds like bearing seizure

    Does the car turn over? like when you crank it, can you see the serpentine belt moving?

Well if the engine is not moving at all and the battery is in good condition, the bearings are seized. If this is the case, you are looking at either a new engine or a major overhaul.

I have a 2000 Durango with a 5.9 liter and it wont turn over. Engine started running a little rough and then quite running all together. It turned over a few times then quit. there is oil in the dip stick...


way too much oil. check the coolant level as the sump may be full of water. It will run with a faulty o2 sensor. run fault codes as there could be a cam/crank position sensor problem

Why does my oil pressure light comes on when turning


Very first thing, check your oil. Even if it is a little low, when making a turn, the oil will shift and starve the oil pump making your oil warning light come on. This is a common problem on that modal Ram! My 1999 Ram 1500 would do the same thing. I check my oil regulatory, even with the oil 1/2 way in safe range on the dip stick, the oil warning light would come on when making turns. I have to fill my engine all the way up to the top mark in the safe range on the dip stick to keep this from happening. Be careful not to over fill. If this continues, you may have a bad oil pump/pick up. I would almost bet, you are have the same problem I had. Good Luck.

Oil light flashing


oil light means loss of oil pressure.. not good ..check oil level fill to full if low..low oil pressure will cause fuel pump to be shut off..

check the colour of engine oil on the dip stick / check the inside of the engine oil lid, if its milky white then see mechanic to overhaul your engine.

Check the oil level on the dip stick in your engine. If the dip stick indicates you are low on oil add the proper oil for your make and model.

your corolla takes 3.5 quarts of oil i would recamend only putting 3.0 quarts in starting it wait for the oil pressure light to go off then check the depstick and fill to full that is how we do it at the oil change shop

My low oil pressure light has come on in my Ferrari 599 2008. What does this mean.


It means you have low engine oil pressure due to a failed oil pressure pump or pressure regulator which IS going to lead to engine failure very soon or you have a faulty sending unit or gauge. Do not drive it, get it towed to the dealer! Not meaning any dis respect to your self, but have you checked the oil on your dip stick? Low engine oil level will also cause this...if it's very low or not on the dip stick again do not drive it but go get oil with a friend and top it up and start your car...if the low oil pressure light goes away you got lucky, but there is the possibility you have already harmed the engine depending on how long the light has been on and you may want to see your dealer...we're not talking about a hyundai here, your engine is probably more valuable! haha

Motor Issue


If the car will not start back up (won't crank or turn over) you are in big trouble. Because that means the engine is seized up and will require either a new engine or a re-manufactured unit. Did the oil pressure light (or any light for that matter) illuminate on the dash. If no turn the key to ignition not run, and see if the oil light illuminates, it should, if it dosen't either the bulb is blown, the sending unit is bad or the wiring is open. My guess is all the oil shot out of the dipstick, ran low on oil and the engine seized up. I'm sure this isn't the answer you were looking for but good luck. Sorry about your misfortune.
