How to Replace a Distributor Cap in Toyota?

Its a plastic cap and and on its top the sparks wires get connected.A small plastic rotor spins inside the distributor cap, firing each spark plug as it rotates. If the distributor gets faulty there the engine may not perform well. in most cases it has been noticed that only replacing the cap does not helps but with cap the rotors also need to be replaced. The procedure is as follows:--- 1) First of all disconnect the negative battery terminal. 2) Then remove the spark-plug wires . Note:-- Before removing the spark plug wires please note down how and where the wires are connected, then only remove the connections. 3) Then on the distributor there will be a cap.remove that cap.the cap is connected by two pins.you will have to press the pins from each side to loosen the distributor cap. Then lift the distributor cap from the top. 4)Then remove the rotor From distributor The rotor is fitted with two screws.Remove the screws and loosen the rotor. 5) Then lift the rotor out from its shaft. 6) To install new rotor and cap.reverse the procedure. This will help.Thanks.

I need to replace ,the rotor button...

TAG OR NUMBER ALL SPARK PLUG WIRES ON THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP BEFORE REMOVING CAP. SO YOU CAN PUT PLUGS WIRES BACK IN THE ORIGINAL POSITION. WHEN ALL PLUGS WIRES ON DISTRIBUTOR CAP BEEN NUMBER.REMOVE ALL PLUG WIRES ON CAP.THEN REMOVE THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP.THEN MARK ROTOR POSITION WITH SHARPIE MARKER THEN REMOVE THE ROTOR.

I am replacing the magnetic pick up on a 1999 dodge ram 1500 pick up is thier any trick in removing the distributor cap?

NO, it simple, but if you are removing the wires off the cap make sure to label them and mark the cap so that wires go back in the same place, if you remove the cap screws lift cap to the side then remove the rotor, sometimes the rotor is tight on the shaft you may have to wiggle and pull it off if thats the case then clean the shaft with a wire brush so rotor slides back on good, with rotor removed just lift pickup and follow wire to connection and unplug and install new one in the same postion, hope this helps.

Back firing thru intake, tune up done-new plugs, wires, cap and rotor. timing good, firing order good... 5.8l efi

check your plug wires again and check the cap and rotor sounds like either a bad cap and rotor or a couple wires backwards

Remove the rotor

On the 2.0L motor, pop off the 2 clips on the distributor, holding the cap on, move the cap out of the way. Pull the rotor off the shaft. And press on the new one. Then remove the center coil wire from old cap, line up new cap to old cap, and transfer 1 wire at time to the new cap. There is a notch where the cap fits to the distributor housing, make sure you have the new cap, exactly like the old one, both notches at 3 o'clock, for insistance. Reinstall the cap with the notch mating the distributor housing slot, and snap on the clips.

What order do plug wires go on distributor cap

Firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. Move #1 cylinder to where piston is up, and on the compression stroke (TDC). Easiest way to do this is with a compression tester on the #1 cylinder - rotor cap OFF. When you see the pressure build...you're on the compression stroke.
The rotor cap should be at the #1 cylinder firing position...simply re-install the rotor cap at this time - noting which button is #1.
Starting at #1 install the wire for the #1 cylinder onto the rotor cap...the next button (clockwise) on the cap should correlate to #8; the third button on the rotor cap is, cylinder #4..and so on.
work your way around the rotor cap until you have all 8 cylinder wires in place...ignition coil wire in the middle button.

Engine should start and run.

Hope this helps.

92 nissan wire patern

I have a 92 Nissan congrats they are awesome cars. Me and my friend changed the rotor and cap along with the spark plugs on mine. If you lost the wire pattern I would recommend going to auto store and looking it up in the nissan car manual.
Good Luck
