Crown vic oil change

I have a 1990 5L V8 crown vic police edition and i just changed the oil and filter, i took the plug off from the oil pan and drained the oil and then re screwed the plug in , then removed and replaced the old filter with a new one, then added 4.5 liters of oil...the problem is that the dip stick is showing that the oil is way over....i know this engine take at least this amount so why is the dip stick showing that i have added to much oil....my thoughts are that somewhere along this cars life the dip stick got changed with the wrong one...i have also read online that there may be 2 different locations that i have to drain the oil from... my question is are there 2 locations where the oil must be drained.... if i have added the correct amount of oil then why is the dip stick showing that i added to much.. Thank You

Did you start and run the engine to fill the oil filter first? If not, that's why it shows overfull.

Some of them have an oil plug at the front of the pan, as well as the regular one. You have to drain them both. The front one only holds a quart or less.

The main one is at the back. There is another one at the front, of the pan.

How to change oil pump on 2000 crown Vic

Drain and recycle the oil. Remove all the bolts from the oil pan. Remove the oil pan. Oil pump is held in with 2 bolta. Remove old pump. When inserting new pump be sure it is sets properly and new gasket is used. Tighten pump . Using new gasket or sealant (parts store can tell you which is recommended) reinstall oil pan. Refill engine oil. ( this is a good time to go ahead and change the oil filter as well). Start car. If oil pressure gauge does not come up to pressure quickly shut engine off. Oil pressure should come up to normal level pretty quickly.

Would like to change oil pan on 1990 ford crown vic 5.0 302 cu/in how do i begin

Before you do, why do you want to change the pan? OK then, consider the sump, is it front or rear? Do you have room to drop the pan 6 inches and get it out? The oil sump is at the bottom of the pan. If not, you have to pull the motor mount bolts out and jack up the engine. Then pull it out. When you put in the new pan, use no adhesive on the gasket, none. Bolt that baby up, drop the engine, tighten everything up, fill her up with oil, you should be all set.

Does the crown vic police intercepter take as much oil as the regular crown vic? (when changing the oil and filter)

I ~think~ the 1999 is the same as the 2000 (mine is a 2000 P71)

The 2000 CVPI (Crown Vic Police Interceptor) owners manual recommends the following:

Engine Oil - Motorcraft SAE 5W-30 Super Premium Motor Oil 5.0 quarts

Transmission Fluid - Motorcraft Mercon V ATF 13.9 quarts (fluids Mercon & Mercon V are NOT INTERCHANGEABLE, DO NOT MIX)

Fuel Tank - 19.0 gallons

Break Fluid - DOT 3

Rear Axle Lubricant - Motorcraft 80W-90 Premium Rear Axle Lubricant 3.75 pints (add 4 oz of Additive Friction Modifier C8AZ-19B546-A or equilavent meeting Ford Spec. EST-M2C118-A for complete refill of Traction-Lok Rear Axles)

Engine Data - 4.6L V8 Engine
Cubic Inches - 281
Required Fuel - 87 Octane
Firing Order - 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
Spark Plug Gap - 1.3-1.4 mm (0.052-0.056 inch)
Ignition System - Coil On Plug
Compression Ratio - 10.0:1

I hope this helps!
