SOURCE: 97 saturn heating

I just did this job a few months ago. It helps to remove the seats, center console and, if it's been leaking coolant all over your floorboard, the carpet. The heater core is tucked up right under the radio; you'll have to contort yourself a bit to get to it. I'm a teeny girl, so it was easier for me to just lie on my back inside the car while working on the inside. Since you're likely a guy and larger than me, you might have to kneel on the ground with the doors as open as you can get them. I recommend kneepads as you'll be spending a good amount of time down there. And get new hose clamps. Ratcheting ones are a million times easier to deal with than the factory ones.

1995 saturn sl2 heater blows but doesn't get hot

Could be several things. First, when car is fully warmed up, open hood and feel your two heater hoses coming out of firewall. Make sure your heater control is on hot, both hoses should feel hot. If only one is hot, your heater core inside heater case is either restricting flow (clogged) or an air pocket is restricting flow in your coolant(need to "burp" system-get all the air out of your cooling system) . If heater core is good, and circulating good, then you may have a temp. control door that is inoperative under dash, and not allowing air to move over your heater core. Good luck.

1998 Saturn SL1 - I have almost no heat. I flushed the system, changed the thermostat. I check both in/out hoses to the heater core (they are both hot). Should i still try changing the heater core? or...

Hi,
As both hoses from the heater core are hot, there is no need to replace the heater core.
The problem will be in the heater control under the dash. I have no experience with Saturn, but I am responding to your problem so as not to remove the heater core.. That would be wasted time and money. The heater, A/C mixture control is the problem.
Someone else will need to guide you through the rest of the way.
Sorry i could not lead you all the way through.

How to fix the heat system in a 97 Saturn sl1...it is only giving cool-cold air and i just replaced the thermostat and flushed the radiator. What do you think the problem may be?

Maybe the heater core is plugged or perhaps you have an air pocket in the cooling system. Try and bleed the cooling system once more.

Hard to start

warriorangel
have a 97 sl1 which was very hard to start and when it would it ran rough and stalled out easily. sometimes no start. It turned out to be the heater sensor on the engine block (right side as you face the hood. just under the heater hose. the part was 17.00 or 27.00
I don't remember which but it ultimately was sending misinformation to the computer module and it always "thought" it was too hot and would adjust incorrectly. the major clue was therm
indicator read hot even when cold and just started. took me 2 days
to figure it out before spending money. good luck.
