Question about 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix

1 Answer

Electrical problems Hi - It's only 1 year that I bought my 2003 Grand Prix Gt and I've had this problem with the electrical system(s): HVAC, trip computer, front passenger power window, and automatic headlights all work only intermittently. If the AC is left on max with fan on 5 (when the HVAC is not working), it might suddenly come on while driving. If you try to turn the fan down, however, the whole HVAC goes completely out again and nothing will get it back. The emergency brake release normally turns on the headlights, but only does so once in a while. The rest of the time I have to manually turn on the headlights. Interestingly, recently one of the headlights was out, so with the car on I started to remove the light for replacement. When i got the housing off, the light came on, so I put it back (without changing). Sure enough the light went out again & this morning I got a ticket for it. The trip computer is only on when the HVAC is on. The passenger power window rarely works, but works once in a while. It seems to me that these problems are all related, but I can't find the problem to fix it. I'm going to check the cables for damage & obvious problems of that sort, but any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! I figured it would be something basic like that. I will check within the next couple of days and post results. Got my fingers crossed - have inspection due at end of month...

It sounds like you have a loose ground wire somewhere. If you can't find it, tonight, when it's dark, have somebody turn all this stuff that's giving you problems, on and off, while you watch for sparks.

Why do I have all these codes on in my 04 Pontiac grand prix gt. U1000,u1300,u1016,u1064,u1096

There is a Pontiac Technical Service Bulletin addressing your exact issue, right down the the same exact codes you are getting. Here is the information I gathered and I will place a link to the page where I found it. You will need to scroll down the list of TSBs to find your specific one. Apparently this is a problem for the Grand Prix.

Here is the basic data:

TSB Number: 0308116001 NHTSA Number: 10002880 TSB Date: February 1, 2004 Date Added to File: September 30, 2003 Failing Component: Electrical System Summary: Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) U1000, U1016, U1064, U1096 or U1305 set in error. This bulletin replaces previous bulletin dated 06/01/2003.

1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GT; Elec problem with fan

Replace the blower resistor that is mounted next to the blower motor on the passenger side of the vehicle.
This will restore correct blower operation and I suspect it is also back-feeding voltage resulting in your electrical issues.
Two screws hold the blower resistor into the heater case and it is very easy to replace.
Good luck

Rear Defroster Problem

1 st of all check all the fuses if all are good it may be the switch itself .......if you are referring to just the defroster ensure both connections are connected to th rear window if there are any breaks in the defroster lines as you will they sell a metal fill type repair kit not expensive and with the use of tape and this mixture you can easily repair the breaks in the defroster lines ........but first ck your fuses and connections maby determine with the use of a test light and check for power at both the switch and the rear wire connections for power to them otherwise it is most likely the switch

I got a 1997 pontiac grand prix gtp coupe. the low coolant light constantly flashes. the coolant fluids are full. i just bought it and i am a little frustrated.

Sometimes the float in the low coolant sensor gets stuck.Find where the electrical connector is on the overflow tank and lightly tap on this area. This might dislodge it,if its stuck.Good Luck!!!
