Take the rear tires off and pull the drums, look at the brake shoes and brake hardware, operate the park brake and see that the mechanical portions are not stuck, if they are free them, make sure the shoes are not worn out, adjust the shoes to lightly touch the drums, then check operation of the brake if it works fine put the tires on. Normally the rear brake shoes adjust themselves as you apply the brakes in reverse, so if you don't back up as often your shoes may be out of adjustment

There are two main ways to adjust your brake. 1) adjust bracket on the frame rail (driver's side). 2)adjust rear shoes. check for proper movement of all arms and brackets on rear shoes.

Procedure for replacing rear rotors with disc brakes and abs on ford ranger 2010

I will try to give you a heads up on this job. The hard part is the emergency brakes hidden inside the rear rotors. You need to get slack from the self adjusters on the brake cable where the cable spools up under the dash on the emergency brake activator. Once you get a little slack, then you can shove the emergency brake levers to their neutral position. This will create slack inside the emergency brake drum and allow you to remove the rear rotor like you normally would for a front rotor. Otherwise the emergency brakes will create problems for removing the rotors.

If you have only worked on front rotors, the rear set is more difficult due to the emergency brakes. Get high quality replacement linings for the emergency shoes. Get new pins and mounting springs to secure the linings to the housing.

You may find some good Youtube videos for this repair. Or you may be better off to do the fronts yourself and take it in for the rear set. Realize there are more parts to buy for the rear since there are 2 sets of brakes back there. I do not like this system because it is not durable and the drum portion rusts to the point of uselessness. If you find a company to give a lifetime warranty for this repair you would be ahead.

How do i release the emergency brake on a 2000 plymouth voyager

Should be a bar on the left side of the dash near the headlight switch you pull out.
Check your owners manual for details.

1994 mercury grand marquis. My emergency brake light will not stay on when the brake is on. The bulb has be checked and it is still go. I need this for it to pass inspection

Hello, These controls are very simple. You need to have the switch adjusted in the holder under the dash or more slack in the adjustment cable.

The way this works is the contact switch needs to extended far enough to activate the bulb. If the Emergency brake is too tight, the contact switch does not get enough room to extend. There is adjustment in the holder for this. What usually happens is the contact switch has extended for a worn system.

When new Emergency brakes are installed or the brake cable is adjusted, someone should have reset the Emergency brake holder. Now the Emergency brake switch does not have room to work. The cable does not move far enough to allow the plunger to move under the dash. You need to either adjust the holder or loosen the cable.

Emergency brake light stays on the dash. is it a troubleshooting light?

It probably indicates that the cable is not being fully retracted when brake is disengaged. Spray as much of cable as possible with WD-40, allow to sit for a few hours, the engage and disengage the brake several times untill it loosens. If this fails the cable may be stretched and needs to be replaced.

Emergency brake stuck, pedal release broken

What happens is the brake cables rust inside the cable sheath and then they won't slide easily. There's no good fix for this other than replacement. It's not easy to even find where they are stuck. It might be possible to find the end of the cables at the back wheels and pull the cables back---to release the tension

2004 explorer brake light will blink here and there while driving

check and make sure brake fluid is full, if so then the emergency brake has a switch on it that will make the brake light come on. to check this get in vehicle and push emergency brake then release it then take your hand and wiggle the emergency brake peddle and see if the light comes on and off. if so then the peddle is not comming all the way up against the switch this may be solved by just pulling up on the peddle each time the emergency brake is released,
