Question about 1997 Pontiac Sunfire
I need to check my transmission fluid in my car but i can't find a dipstick to do so. I was just going to add some to be safe but where do you put it in at? It is an automatic transmission.
I'm not sure about your specific car but most of the time when you can't find a dipstick for your transmission it is because there isn't one. In these cases you have to find your transmission fluid pan and there will be two plugs in it. On will sit higher up than the other. The higher one is the fill plug and the lower one is the drain plug. To check/fill the oil you take the fill plug out. You know that it is full when there is a small amount of fluid dribbling out of that hole. If there isn't anything coming out, you need to add some until there is. It's kinda hard to add but they make special pumps/funnel type things that you can screw on the end of a bottle of fluid and you can buy those for a few dollars at your auto parts store. Let me know if you have other questions. Thanks for an honest rating and for using FixYa!

Dipstick is to the left of the engine. Should be a small yellow dipstick. Add fluid through the dipstick hole. The vehicle should be running when you do this. It is best to have driven at least 20 miles before adding trans fluid so everything has had time to get hot.
