Question about Infiniti Cars & Trucks
By changing the exhaust I take it that you removed the standard exhaust manifold and fitted extractors in instead. The noise may not be lifters but a exhaust leak form the exhaust not being fitted properly (gasket ) or just and gas noise as the exhaust valve opens that is normally silenced by a stock manifold.

SOURCE: knocking lifter
Give it a Seafoam treatment - the stuff is available at the auto parts stores and at Walmart. Instructions are on the can - it's an easy procedure that can work wonders on an older engine.

There may be debris in your drive belt causing a squeek. With the engine running pour some water on each belt, this will cause the belt at fault to squeek.

SOURCE: Loud lifter noise
Over time and miles the lifters tend to collapse and the only way to quiet the noise is to replace them or use something like lucas to try to keep the pressure up in the lifters. If you did replace the lifters it would help with performance because when the lifters start to collapse the valves do not open all of the way. Hope this helps!
