Only warm air in def no heat elsewhere

I have a 1996 Audi A4 V6 And it has a poor excuse for heat. Defrost is warm and gets the car luke warm, the fan works on all speeds, all options, the control unit shows no errors on the diagnostics, the car also runs at perfect temp not cold or hot, Ive checked the heater core hoses coming out of the firewall they are warm like the other water lines too and from. Help this is rather annoying lol

Check the mechanism that controls the heat flow .The flap may not be opening fully thereby ,impeding the full flow of heat into the cabin. .

I'd Say you have a blocked heater core - not uncommon on these models.
Potentially the mixing flaps within the HVAC box aren't functioning correctly, but you say the system makes no strange noises and isn't throwing codes...
Unfortunately, heater core replacement is a dash-out job. Not the end of the world, but a bit pricey.

Check to see if there is a cable or vacuum operated valve in the heater hose that may not be opening or closing all the way operate the valve manually to see if it works smoothly. Also check to see that the outside air intake vent is closed.Hope this helps

You need air to circulate through the heater core - that's how it heats it! It doesn't use recirculated air

Also, Audi's use an air mixing system for climate control (mixing hot and cold air to get the right temperature). They don't use heater taps, the core gets full flow at all times.

Om my 2001 Audi A4 Avant T1.8, I have minimal heat and no indication on my temp gauge. I have changed the thermostat and it made no difference. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

hey mate
going through similar problem myself right now. 1997 A4 1.8 (same vintage as yours I think)

No heat from vents (luke warm at best) - temp gauge never moves.
I've also been getting really poor fuel economy - I think it is linked to this, as the EMU thinks the engine is constantly cold and changes the air/fuel ratio (like having the choke out when driving).

Q: Does your radiator fan come on when you start your engine from cold? It shouldn't come on until the engine is warmed up. If so your problem could be to do with the fan control unit, or the viscous assembly of the rotor itself. Both can be replaced as one modular unit.

I would be curious to hear what solution you came to as I am troubleshooting this myself at the moment.

1996 audi a4, no heat.

Sounds like your thermostat is sticking open, when this happens your coolant in your engine isn't given enough time to warm up and just cycles threw to your radiator, which cools the fluid not allowing it to get warm/hot. Thermostat tend to go bad, this is most likely your issue, just have your thermostat and gasket for your thermostat replaced too. Your looking at about 10 dollars in parts maybe 20 dollars in labor! If this helped give me a thumbs up please!

We have an audi a4 2.6cc , the heater only blows cold air we have had a new heater matrix a new water pump and thermostat and a new radiator now it blow luke warm air but not hot, please any ideas

sounds like the thermostat is not functioning correctly? either that or not in at all? thus making the water which would normally warm up quickly, warm up extremely slowly and on really cold days not at all? with a 2.6 engine your car shoudl warm up in record time?
