SOURCE: keys lock in trunk alarm will not allow trunk switch to lock

The solution is to pull out the back seat to get into the trunk. There are two bolts holding the bottom part of back seat (bolts located between bottom and top sections). Then pull out bottom section of back seat and you see the hinge for the top section, remove the bolts and then you can lift up and access the trunk. It's not that hard.

SOURCE: how to get into trunk w/o keys and trunk opener. Keys are locked in trunk and button inside car is locked.

Using your keyless entry on the keypad, press the 5 digit code to get into the door and press the 6 key immediately after. Lincoln has several codes in addition to the 5 digit keyless entry like pressing the 3 to open all the doors, the 6 for the trunk and pressing the last 2 buttons at the same time to lock the doors.

The rental company may be able to send the car a rescue signal to help you regain access. If not, they have a guy that will come and do magic to your problem.

Locked my 1998 BMW keys in the trunk. Even if I Jimmy the lock the door will not open. The alarm disables the mechanism. Please help.

The locking system will fight your attempts to jimmy the lock unless you can disconnect the battery.
Your best solution may be to remove the license plate and carefully drill a hole so you can reach in with a wire hook and release the trunk lock. If you know anyone else with an e36, I advise that you pull up the trunk lid liner in their trunk and examine the lock so you can decide exactly where you want to drill the hole. You will want to find a rubber plug that is made to snap in a hole in sheet metal, and then drill your hole to fit the plug you find. A 3/4" hole should be about right.
I think that the dealer can get a key made if they have your VIN. Those keys are not cheap.
