Question about 1999 Audi A4

1 Answer

Im not sure if my 99 A4 quattro is compatible...(see details)

My audi is a 99 A4 quattro with the 30V DOHC 2.8L engine, with a Manual Transmission, and the instrument cluster is one without the on board computer.(off of Ebay moters http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200342066635 )

My question/Problem is i would like to replace the stock Instrument cluster with the instrument cluster with the on board computer.

The parts number for the instrument cluster i want to put on is: P90056.
It says the engine type is automatic, and i was wondering if it is interchangeable with the MT one.

I've looked everywhere to see if it is interchangeable, and figured i'd try here.

If anyone has upgraded/replaced their instrument cluster with this one, let me know if it is, or what i would need to make the switch,
Thanks!

i see, i realized this was something i probably wasnt going to be able to do myself obviously, but i'll probably contact an Audi dealer then and inquire about that. because i have seen an instrument cluster with the trip computer(the reason i wanted it was for the MPG and so forth) for the 99 A4, but wasnt absolutely sure if the stock instrument panel could be replaced with the one with a computer, before purchasing it.

    thanks for your assistance!

It's not going to work. The car's computer has to be coded to the instrument cluster in order for the computer to drive the gauges. This recode can be done by a dealer, but you'd need to get one for a manual car, and I believe your car would have had to have the trip computer feature in the first place in order to work. That's one of the biggest headaches with our cars - there are so many interconnected parts that require specific matching in order to work, and I don't think you're going to be able to do it.

Is it always hard to engage or only when the engine is running? If it is only when the engine is running, then the clutch is worn and needs to be replaced.

What kind of oil should i use for 2004 Audi A6 ?

It depends. If you have a turbo engine like the 2.7T, or the 4.2 V8, you should be running a quality synthetic oil like Mobil1. If you have a V6, you're OK running conventional oil (I use Valvoline conventional, 5W30, in my 99 A4 with a 30v 2.8 V6).

Support Bracket power steering AUDI 1998 2.8

Any comparable car should work. Your car is a 98, so you would have to stick with Audi/VW cars that have the 30v V6 (98-01.5). The 97 and earlier years used an older 12v V6 and those aren't compatible. It's unlikely that the 1.8T models would work either. You'd have to look for A4, A6, and Passat cars in the model range I mentioned, and you may find that if you have a quattro model, your replacement would have to come from a quattro (Audi) or 4motion (VW) car as well. Try to find a donor car with your same drivetrain (30v V6, auto/stick - whichever you have, and 2wd/4wd, whichever you have).

To tell at a glance which engine is which, the 30v has black covers on the valve covers that say "5V" (for five valves per cylinder). The older 12v cars I believe actually say "12v" on them.

It is mounted to the transmission bellhousing on the driver's side. The connector is mounted on the firewall and is a smaller, gray connector. You can reach the sensor from underneath.

Audi 2.5 tdi Quattro Avant

I don't think this is possible. Your AFB engine requires an AFB-compatible ECU. The AFB code is specific to that engine design due to parameters of the engine itself. My 99 A4 has the AHA V6 30v engine, which can only be controlled by an AHA ECU. Changing the ECU does not change the engine itself, and trying to use an ECU from a different engine code will not work. If you want to use a different engine, you'd need that new engine's ECU, engine bay harness, accessories and mounts, and possibly even the chassis harness from the donor car. It'd be a tremendous amount of work.
